Here's my dilemma, I came out of a 996 TT into a CL55 because the ride was so much better. The CL is actually faster in a straight line that the Turbo. Most of my driving (8,000 miles p/yr) is on the highway back and forth to my office. The good news is that I get to hammer the car for 130+mph everyday.

The problem is that every trip in the 911 is an adventure, where every trip in the CL55 is a ho-hum, I can go really fast or slow.

So I'm torn between switching to the daily excitement of the 997 C2S or the top down luxo cruise of the SL55. (And no, I just don't like the 911 in a cab.)

The two things that moved me from the 996TT to the CL were, ride quality and road noise.

Most of my driving is highway or about town and fits the SL, but my heart ... well, you know.

Has the 997 improved the ride quality and reduced the road noise?

 

your cl55 was faster than your 996TT? anyway, go with the C2S, so much more fun to drive.

 

Yeah, I added the ASP pully and it dynos at 450rwhp and 530tq, my 996TT was stock.

 

oh ok. that makes sense, bc stock for stock the 996TT should be a decent amount faster.

 

to answer your question, my c2s is loud and harsh. i am not sure if it's that much better from my 996 c4s. but i guess an adventure is not supposed to be quiet and luxurious.

 

I have gone now twice from a porsche 911 (various models) into a 2 seater mercedes--usuall sl500. Then I have gone back (2) times into another porsche. Each time I say I will drive the sl500 daily etc. The sl500 is like being with a beautiful women with little action. The porsche is like being with an average looking women but an action creature.
No comparison, I will take the action. I of course am back in a porsche again.

SL55 for your requirement.

 

Buy a GT3 and drive it everyday for 3 months.

The C2 will feel like driving a sofa after that and you'll have the fun driving a more agile car than the 55.

 

Unless somebody says Maybach, I doubt you'll find anything that doesn't feel noisy and harsh after that luxoboat. It's all about perspective I guess... but the little I've driven one, I could easily live with a 997s without complaining.

 

The ride is less harsh in a 997C2S than the 996s, road noise changing tires will help. I have S03, yes they are very loud compared to others but I love them, part of the whole Pcar experience!!!

 

That's the surprise post of the thread. I've heard that the 997 is significantly quieter and smoother than the 996TT.

Seat time is the answer.

I have both. SL55 K2 for brutal effortless acceleration and sound. Comfy all around too. C2S for fun rowing through the gears. If I know I am going to run into bumper to bumper I take the SL for sure. Both ride very well but I think the SL has a lot less body roll, active suspension AMG style.

 

The SL55's massive low end torque is rather addicting...also the 07 SL55 got a new/improved supercharger boosting power.
