Porsche Sport Exhaust or other...
Hello all, about to bite the bullit on a spec built 997 C4S... In your opinion (s) is the PSE worth the $2400 option price, or have some of you found a better place for your money; like fabspeed, borla, etc... I have heard most of them; the PSE seems to stick with me. I understand it all comes down to personal preference; though not visiting the 997 forums until now, (996 C2) wondering what you might have learned in the past...
put the $2400 in PSE? or save at least half, and add another option?
Thanks All

Forget the BS about performance gains from a muffler and get the PSE .
Nothing else sounds better on a Porsche .It's worth every penny.
Cheap mufflers belong on a Subaru. Lol

I love the option on my targa 4s. When my wife in car, I turn it off. When I am alone I always turn it own. The cars drives more aggressively. I'm sure you can after market but do they really know more then the porsche engineers.

I just bought the PSE after much time researching and reading the opinions of MANY of the 6speeders. I was able to get it from Brandywine Porsche at much less than 2400 and I will do the install myself. Give Jay @ brandywine a shout. Very quick responses to questions.

Here is another thread about where to get the PSE at a discounted price.

Hope these help answer your questions and cut your search time down.

When I bought my 997S (two months ago), having the PSE was one of the major selling points. I like the factory fit and finish, the sound is amazing, and of course the switch. I can't stress how being able to quiet the car is equally important, since mine is a daily driver. And sometimes I like talking to my beautiful wife without having to raise my voice.
The other mufflers sound good, each has it's own sound, so it's a personal taste thing. As for horsepower increase from a muffler, take em' with a grain of salt.
Is it worth $2400? YES. Every damn penny. Best option on the car in my hubble opinion. (Then of course I didn't actually pay full price).
When I order my next Porsche, I will be checking that box first.

This issue polarizes the Porsche group. Anyone that says all aftermarket exhaust systems provide no gain obviously doesn't know the facts. It all depends on what you want. If all you want is something that sounds different than stock, then go ahead and spend the $2400 and get PSE from the factory (so it's wired and easy to operate - turn on or off). But if what you want is a Performance Sport Exhaust (pun intended as there's nothing performance about PSE - it's even heavier than even stock), then you have to go aftermarket. And it is ridiculous to call Tubi or AWE "cheap" and belong on a Subaru obviously has never seen or heard one, never read any of the articles at places like Excellence, never reviewed the dyno charts, etc.
If you are after performance gains, then you must ignore the PSE and get a system like Champion's F77 or AWE (what I purchased). Significant weight savings and higher flow, which equals more power and torque as confirmed by the dyno. If you ever sell the car or decide to remove a system from AWE or Champion, then they are easy to part-out for good money because they are in high demand.

I hear you Dave... PSE does sound nice if sound is all you want and you don't mind that it doesn't add any performance. All depends on what you want but I think Porsche is a little disingenuous letting people thing it's a performance item... Boy, if PSE were lighter and lower restricting, thus higher performance, I would have purchased it through the dealer.

Porsche is "disingenuous" ?
how did you arrive at that ?
Porsche makes ZERO performance claims for their mufflers(unlike the lies you get from some of those aftermarket muffler welders)
In PSE mode, you bypass ~ 2/3 of the mufflers . I think it's reasonable to assume that results in less restriction ? probably less than many of the so-called "performance" mufflers .
Not that it really matters. You just don't get anything worth mentioning from a muffler .And that is what we are discussing here .
For my money , I got the SOUND I wanted.
I did not expect any performance gains , even though there may be some ?
What did you get , 10 lbs lighter, a car that drones inside , sounds like a "ricer" , with less torque at the lower end and maybe a few hp above 6k rpm ?

Where did you come up with this? I still agree with RonCT.
