I have been told a kind of condensation builds up in cars that are mostly driven mildly which in turn may cause a higher oil level reading than what it really is...

The hardest was to figure out which oil to use since it's not noted anywhere in mnaual or on car....
Had to call my wife and do an online search since it was sunday!

0W-40. i now have a spare can ready!
Don't know about the 05 manual but in the 06 manual "Engine Oil Recommendation" has its own page - page 203.

I have an 06 997 S and I got the oil changed around 1500 kilometers ago. After getting it changed I verified the oil was showing as full. 1500 kilometers later, its at its lowest bar and I had to add 2 litres to apparently get it back. There are no obvious leaks and there isnt really anything glaringly obvious. I shift in between 3K to 5K max...

Is that normal?

08 C4S, 1300 miles and I'm down 2 bars....my SA told me each tick was only 1/4 of a quart though and I swear that's what I thought I read in my manual too.

will have to recheck my manual now.

First 600 miles burned .4qt...down one bar. Added .4qt oil to full mark. 1700 miles later oil at full to one bar over depending on when I check??? Car is driven mildly and, like stated earlier, I think condensation raises the oil level. A bit of hard driving and it would probably be down a bar.

I drive my '08 C4S X51 like it's stolen since new. Oil usage is, 1litre every 1500kms (sorry about metric). I have 6,000km on the clock. 0.8 litres between high and low reading marks on on-board digital oil gauge.

2008 997s with 6,800 miles on the clock. In fairness, I changed the oil at 2,000 miles (after break in) and again at 5,000 miles (one year birthday) but I haven't seen any oil usage at all (knock on wood).

surfingbuddhist has a spectacular aura aboutsurfingbuddhist has a spectacular aura about
06 with 34k, burning less oil than 0-20k. All you guys with the low miles will be happy when you get closer to 20k and the engine "loosens up" and gets faster. Anyone else notice this or am I just crazy...

The difference between the minimum and maximum
marks on the segment display is approx.
1.2 liters.
Each segment of the display corresponds to approx.
0.4 liter.

You really added 2 liters - since you said you had the lowest bar showing you probably only needed 1.2 liters. If you were down 2 liters I'm surprised you didn't get a warning icon. Recommend adding only 0.5 liters at a time until you get to the correct level.

Went through 1.5 quarts or so during the first 2 K then had the oil/filter changed. Since then maybe 3/4 Q for the next 3.5 K . Since turning over 5 K oil consumption had been more than reasonable and is well within what I'd consider normal. However, the car doesn't see a lot of long trips with steady highway miles which could impact oil usage.

On a 2006 997S with 35K miles, about 1500-2000 miles per quart. Essentially a daily driver with a lot of short trips, which tend to use oil. What I try to do is to only add 1/2 quart oil when the display is 2 bars down.
