The Cayman S is pretty damn good!

This certainly won't make a C2S feel any better. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=97462

Maybe this will make them feel a little better :
Porsche AG sales figures, up to July 31. 2007
911 units sold : this year : 37,415 , Last year : 34,386
Boxter/ Cayman : this year : 26,712 , Last year : 30,680
Cayenne : this year : 33,943 , Last year : 34,134
The Cayenne figures were slightly lower this year , due to a model change .
Which meant production had to be halted for ~ 3 months.
911 sales were at an all time record high , up 8.8 % over last year.
Boxter/Cayman sales dropped by more than 10% .
All assembly of this model line was moved to Finland, in order to
accomodate the increased demand for the 911 series cars which are
produced solely in Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen .
Seems the overpriced, bloated, outdated model 911 still manages
to hang in there somehow, even if just by it's fingernails . Lol

I echo that- I went from a Boxster S to a 996 Cab, and there is a difference in alot of areas. The Box was much easier to drive, and corners much better than the 996- at least the 996 with me driving. My skill may be the problem with the 996. But on Straightaways, the 996 is far and away beter, especially from a dead stop. I know, because my girlfriend has the Box now, and she is a better driver than I am! So there may be a race or two, just sayin...

Not owning a 911 does sometimes make one succumb to an inferiority complex. Always wondered about that

I think there are a lot of people who like myself have long been drawn to the iconic status of the 911. Its a great car, not like its crap. The Cayman may be a little more purposeful but I think a lot of people whether they will admit it or not want to be able to hear those magical words, "Its a 911". Like I said, I love them and would have been thrilled to have one and maybe will in the future.
My only argument for the Cayman is that hands down its an easier car to drive fast and is fundamentally a better sports car. I couldn't convince myself that owning the legend was better than the actual driving experience the Cayman offered at this point in my life.

As APcayman stated, the only good reason I could find for getting the 911 was because it is an icon.
Sales are totally irrelevant. Lets be real, Porsche could turn it into a total POS and people would buy it just because it has a 911 brand. How many people out and on this board actually track their car and actually know how to drive the 911 to its limits in order to make it competitive with the cayman? I bet that percentage is pretty slim.
Whatever, its not that important to me...I like my cayman. When I add the ferrari I wont really care too much about the iconic status of the 911 anyway...and really that is all but gone after driving the two side by side and settling into the cayman. Inferiority complex is just stupid. I could see it if it were a 350Z or something like that. Since the caymans are new, all owners are buying at top dollar...and all of which could have easily got a 911 for a few grand more or just bought 911 that was a couple years old. Truth is, most cayman S owners probably just prefer the cayman.

And most 911 owners just prefer the 911 to a Cayman, something many of the Cayman crew does not seem to get reading these posts.

My comments had little to do with 911 vs cayman but rather than I would prefer to see porsche either update the 911 or stop neutering the cayman. While someone made a good point that some people like the rear engine design and added weight of the 911, it is still limited by its design unless under the hands of a professional. The cayman on the hand is underpowered and lacking some performance features that otherwise might cannibalize 911 sales.

I dont know if that was directed at me, but that would not be logical if you read the posts. I can see a case for each one and really I am still about 50/50 on the debate between the two. I like both cars, but do not love either.
