I actually think that your car could benefit from the muffler Bypass pipes. Keep the cats on. I had a buddy of mine fab some up for Tylers C4S, since you have a turbo rear bumper they could work. He is selling his car, I am sure he would take them off if you were interested.

Well, I am excited about getting the sport cats for the sound that I am hoping they will produce. I wanted headers but am afraid of having the raspy note that some people have talked about. I prefer the deeper and more throatier sound. So i am keeping fingers crossed, but like stated before. There is no sound clip or way to guess exactly what it will be like till you put it on your own vehicle. I am afraid that the sound no matter what will never make me happy and eventually the muffler bypass pipes will be the route. I will seee and obviously comment back to let people know what happens.

I think that having the FabSpeed exhaust you would keep the deep sound. That's my experience. Go for the headers!

Thanks for thinking of me. Unfortunately my bumper is a turbo look and the cut outs are the same as the narrow body bumper. I'd have to have some extensions welded on there.

BTW, I don't think 02 sims would work on the current 997 with it's DME. It didn't for the E46 M3 and from what I hear it doesn't work on the 997. The computer is to good for this..it has to be done with software to avoid a CEL such as FVD.

I had the real PSE on my Boxster S and loved it with Fabspeed cat bypass pipes - sounded perfect. Deep with no resonance.

I seriously considered dropping $1200 on ebay or $1750 at suncoast for the true 997 PSE. But just couldn't bring myself to part with hardearned clams when this hack is SOO easy and cheap.

Anyway, someone here had mentioned the dude on ebay selling hacked mufflers - I looked at his design and added to it - using 2" pipe sections rather than 1". Welding a 2" pipe between inlet and outlet pipes did the trick! Perfection!

It sounds completely awesome - sounds EXACTLY like the OEM PSE, maybe even a bit louder.

All this for $175 for 2 hours labor at the local muffler store. And please, no comments on the butt-ugly welds. Of course, the install takes all of 45 minutes by yourself with jackstands, maybe even ramps. Very easy.

Below are pics and link to the videos.

Yikes - 21 lbs per side (far less than Fabspeed's claim of 55 lbs)

thanks for sharing. glad i bump into this thread..

Like to confirm so the only mod to the stock mufflers is the Addition of a 2 inch pipe between inlet and outlet to link as above?

so this magical link transform to the PSE?

btw i see a varition of diameters to use.. seems like the pse uses 1 inch while this mod is 2 inch.. which should be used>?

Warranty effect?

I have no idea if it would effect the warranty. I can't imagine it would, but I don't work for PCNA

I love the PSE. Just wish it did not have the dead zone.
