Thanks for posting the pics and sharing this with us. I think this bluetooth user interface is by far very superior to the Dension product and it even uses the PCM phone functions to boot!

The screenshots you provided look great and I'm looking forward to your future
updates regarding sound quality and long term use.

I'm curious as to the total cost of your current set up. Can you share here or PM me the general amount?

Also, does Nav-tv function USB port Hard drives (e.g. for updates and mp3 files)?

The PCM radio has support for an external phone module, which in this case is the factory GSM unit. the slot in the PCM radio accepts a SIM card and the radio transfers the SIM content to the phone module via the MOST link.
TOOKI emulates a factory phone module. It is a valid PHONE node on the MOST network, hence as far as the radio is concerned, it sees the TOOKI as a phone module.
Therefore, almost all functions originally supported by the factory phone module are supported by the NAV-TV TOOKI.
Certain functions, mainly SIM related, are not working. SMS functions are limited to select carriers, so for example SMS with Verizon and Sprint is not supported.

 

So when can we buy this? Do you guys need another beta-tester?

I would say release is scheduled for late October.

I don't want to repeat our last mistake, which was releasing a product (iPod interface...) too early. I must admit, it took quite a few revisions to get it right.
The biggest mistake was not to incorporate some sort of user-update feature.

This time, We took the time to validate the product in Germany and in the US, and the last bugs are being worked out.

The best part is that once released, there would never be replacements unless the hardware fails (extremely rare !)

TOOKI will have the capability of being upgraded (firmware update) via a bluetooth-enabled laptop, both for new phone compatibility and MOST software updates.

In any case, it would be much cheaper than the factory GSM kit (trust me, I have purchased such a kit for our R&D !!! big $$$ )

 

What other features does nav-tv have?

I know that an iPod adapter is available. I'd look forward to the following features on PCM also:

-Rear-view camera
-TV/DVD playback capability
-USB/Hard drive mp3 playback

Are any of these in development or already available?

 

My installer charged me $150 to install the Nav-TV Bluetooth adapter. It took less than 45 minutes.

I will continue to post my impressions as I use the device more. I am getting an updated unit this week that is supposed to correct a couple of minor glitches that showed up with my initial unit. NAV-TV was very responsive to my feedback, quickly made changes to address the glitches I found, and shipped me a revised unit the next day after we spoke. The main glitch was that only about the first 60 or so entries from my phonebook were being synced to the PCM. With this addressed, it should be very close to being ready for prime time.

 

Seems to be a giant leap forward....

 

So far, so good. The updated unit should arrive tomorrow, and I will try to get it installed Thursday. It is supposed to incorporate fixes for every issue I have passed on to NAV-TV, so I'm hopeful that I'll be all set.

The ability to accommodate future updates via a Bluetooth-connected laptop is very cool. I have a Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth adapter in my truck which allows such a way to update, and it works great. I had to do the most recent update to get it to work properly with my iPhone. This ability on the Nav-TV Bluettoth adapter will be very beneficial.

In simpler terms, I do not have the factory phone option, and my Nav-TV Bluetooth adapter (Tooki) works.

 

I would like more info on compatibility with PCM, as a stand alone bluetooth option with my Dension i-pod unit.
Also, did you mean it was not compatible with Sprint at all, or just certain functions did not work with that service? eg. what is SMS?

 

NAV-TV is better qualified than I am to answer your questions, but let me take a stab at answering what I do know. SMS is Short Message Service also known as text message. There is a button on the row of buttons below the PCM screen labeled SMS. I think NAV-TV is saying that SMS functionality with his unit is dependent on cellular carrier support, and that SMS via Verizon and Sprint is not supported. That may have something to do with the fact that Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology, while AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM, which also uses a SIM (Subscriber Information Module) card. Since the factory built-in phone option also uses GSM, the Nav-TV module's emulation may provide more functionality with a GSM carrier's phone.

As for using the Nav-TV Bluetooth module along with a Dension iPod adapter, I would think that it would still work since the Nav-TV Bluetooth adapter connects directly via the MOST fiber optic ring. Therefore, adding another MOST device to the ring should be no different from already documented installations in which people have added the Cayenne satellite radio alongside a Dension or Nav-TV iPod adapter.
