NAV-TV Bluetooth Adapter for 997
#121
okay, now that i know this works... i just got nav-tv installed in my C2S cab. i had the sirius sat radio, ipod, and tooki bluetooth installed. i had it installed only a few days ago, and i haven't had much time to play with it since the porsche is only driven occasionally on the weekends. but so far it is great. i chose nav-tv based on the information from this forum. there have been some glitches. the bluetooth phone book only displays the 1st half of my contacts. probably about 60 or so. the bluetooth also disconnects sometimes. the sat radio works great. i found out that my ipod g5 nano doesn't work with it. but my older ipod 60 GB g4 works great. only complaint about it is that it lags a little. oh, another big problem is the microphone. i have it up near the dome light. works great when the car is at a stand still. however, whenever driving above 20-30 mph or so, callers complain of a lot of static. i've got a cab, so my ride is noisy. anyone with a solution? i think the installer used the mic that came with the tooki. maybe i should upgrade the mic? maybe change the location? any help would be appreciated.

I just found out that you can not use your phones Voice Dial via the tooki and PCM. You must push the button on the phone.
The Dension unit, for all its deficits, allows Voice Dial via the dial out button.

Is your Dension iPod GW500 still connected in conjunction with the Nav-Tv TOOKI? Or did you change your whole set up?
I love it! I really should have gotten THIS instead of ordering the phone module from the factory. You can't even tell that they're different from one another. The only indication is that it says "Tooki searching" whenever you first get in the car but then the carrier shows up after it connects automatically. The SMS doesn't really work but I admit I haven't really tried it much. It's really a moot point for me because it really does take forever to type out a message. I suspect that it's carrier based just as JBONDOx mentioned.
I couldn't tell you guys where they installed the Tooki unit because I wasn't there when they did the installation. I can however tell you that the factory microphone isn't very good compared to the noise-cancelling mike that comes with the Tooki. I'll have to take a picture of where they put mine. They experimented with finding the best location which turned out to be up above by the dome light.
If you guys haven't gotten one yet, what are you waiting for!

question for you, if you are listening to AM/FM/SAT and you get a phone call does the Dension display on the PCM? Also when you hit the TEL button on the PCM, then select ADDRESS, how many contacts appear?

Do you know if the passive handset works with Tooki?

Yes, I have both the GW500 and Tooki in the car. Both works independently of each other. The only downside is that I've had to remove the CD Changer. Oh wait...that's not a downside!

picking up my 05 next week. Was wondering if anyone install this unit themselves ? IS it hard to do? Removing the PCM seems pretty easy. So the Tooki unit costs 750 ? is that just for the bluetooth unit ?

my tooki was delivered today (11/30) so i will be attempting the install this weekend. I will take some pics as I go along. I installed the GW500 and it worked so I suppose I can do this too.
I haven't removed the PCM unit before but i found step-by-step DIY with pics on the cayman club forum. Doesn't look too difficult (I hope).

Here are some basics up to PCM removal I used for my Dension 500.
You may only need the first few steps I forget if you need the glove box out or not!!

Thanks Larry. the pics are very useful.
In answer to scuzy's questions: is the tooki worth it. the factory unit is double the cost and many install hours and you have to get a dedicated sim card/another phone. so the cost of the tooki seems reasonable to me considering i can pair it with most any BT phone. just my 2 cents

Installed the tooki today. Works like a charm. my address book contains about 60 entries and i had access to all. Signal was clear on both sides of the conversation. Very, very pleased.
Use the PCM buttons to dial; and use the call/hang-up buttons to make and end calls. All intergated and you almost wouldn't know you were using Bluetooth.
Besides the below pics, i have others in case you install and have a question
Add these notes for future installers
(ps... there are NO install instructions with the unit)
Carpet piece Torx 27
Leatherette trim panels Torx 20
Locking bolt on passenger side 7mm
The 1/4 turn locking 'bolts' are VERY easy to turn with a 5mm hex wrench. Like 1 ftlb easy, so just give them a light twist. NOTE: the upper one on the drivers side is tough to get to. You kinda do it by feel using a 5mm allen wrench. (the lower dashboard trim is in the way. But I got it done on the first try.
Don't forget the 7mm locking bolt on the passenger side
So what stumped me? It was the fiber connector supplied by Nav-TV. The one fiber cable comes pre-made with a connector on the end to plug into the tooki. You have to insert one of the cables from the car into this connector. Well it's a little different and took me 10 minutes to figure out. Usually the fiber connectors have a small blue pin you pull out. This one is actually a two-piece connector. On one side of the connector is a small piece of plastic. Slip a very small screwdriver in between the main housing and the piece of plastic. That will release the inner 'barrel' so you can insert the fiber cable. Low an behold, there is the little blue "T" pin,
I placed the Tooki directly behind the PCM. There is a narrow gap between the rear-most bracket where it fits perfectly. I'd added some velco to keep it from rattling. Just make sure all the cabling is out of the way. There is just enough room to fit it.
Mic: The mic was placed by the sunroof console. A constant pain for me is running any wire along the upper windshield without it falling down all the time. This time I cut some of those styrofoam peanuts in half and wedged them in; works great.
locking bolts just below the yellow clips
Space behind PCM; you can see the mic jack
The connector that baffled me. Here is the inner barrel and outer shell. The index finger points to the side where you need to insert the blade to release the inner barrel
And finally, success
