rjmsd: well, there is always the offical CS GT500 but sadly, the new-body style version and not an "E". It's certainly an entertaining saga.

Have you perhaps considered Shelby's revival of the Terlingua (sp) Mustangs instead? Certainly not the same kind of machine but very colorful and fun background.

289FIA Cobra,

I have not, but will do so. It might take some internal deprograming, since I am rather enamored with the "E" mustang.

The next best thing: http://www.classic-recreations.com/

Seems like they have a good plan, especially regarding the security of the funds: http://www.classic-recreations.com/press/licensing.pdf

The "sucking" sounds you hear, that equal laughable depreciation, are coming from ANYTHING that Unique Performance touched. I'm just glad I got a front row seat to the debacle, without having to pay dearly for it.

Carroll Shelby has cancelled their licensing agreement to Unique Performance around October of 2007. Unique can no longer use the Carroll Shelby tags, signatures, etc. on any future 500E's. the The company has been doing bad business lately (very late delivery, overheating issues (sound familiar?) and many deposits have turned up with no shipement of the 500E's.) Blame being spread all over the place but Shelby want's nothing more to do with them.

Not sure who will be doing them now but it's clear, Unique will no longer beign making "legal licensed" versions.

Here's the article in case you're interested;

near the bottom, it indicates Unique shipped 119 vehicles, mostly Shelby's. Damn Nick, you should be playing the lottery!

For one thing, a 500E is a Mercedes-Benz ... not a modified Ford.

Furthermore, the REAL Eleanor is a 1973 Mustang Mach 1. The Eleanor Mustang was never a Shelby.

Hasn't anyone seen the original Gone in 60 Seconds movie? It's a Southern California (mainly filmed in the South Bay and Long Beach) classic.

It amazes me why anyone would pay so much for a Hollywood creation.

Just a quick heads up from someone who has built a few kit cars, there are a number of people out there who splashed the UP kits and are selling bodykits if you look hard enough.

Throw in a phenomenal fastback for say 40K with the motor and suspension interior go through ~15K for the kit and install, another 10K for paint and you have a 500e. Much less then UP was charging and all done locally where yucan keep you eyes on the builder. It could be down significantly cheaper if you us a coupe to fastback chop and you own guys.

Having said all that I don't think that carol is calling all the shots anymore, I think the legal team there is buttoning things up for him so that there is a path after he moves on.

Yucan lead a horse to water, but yucan not make it drink (or become a 500E)

This thread is becoming a NASCAR member thread ... GTOs, 500Es ... aren't they American cars?

IMO, it's really more Foose than Shelby. Steve Stanford sketched the car for the movie company and Foose brought it to life. The crooks/hacks from TX basically just had a licensing agreement, ie they just paid for the use of his name and trademarks, he had nothing to with the design or production.
