06 Viper daily driver
Hey guys i am looking to pick up a paxton supercharged viper for my daily driver. How reliable can these cars be for daily driving or 15k miles per year. I don't care about comfort, but I need a car that doesn't require too much maintenance and wont break down on me. The car has a paxton supercharger and makes about 700 rwhp. It does not have a built motor. Also, what are the significant differnces between the o0-o8 viper coupes other than the engine. What should I check for when looking at the 06 supercharged coupe. Thanks for the help.

How far is and what type of roads will you be driving as your daily commute?
Seems like overkill for a daily driver ....will you be able to use the extra power and what about putting all those miles on a modified car?
If it was me and I liked the car that much, I'd get it and spring for another car as my daily.
Post it on VCA and see what others there tell you -

Good luck.

I'd recommend not getting this if it's your only car or have access to another car if it has to go in for tuning or maintenance. It's a whole new league with a Viper and an even more expensive one with at paxton supercharger. You won't just drop it off at a dealer or at a shop and get it back in a day if something goes wrong. You should set aside a few thousand bucks in case something happens to that set up.

Depends on who installed it. If done by a reputable tuner, it should be unbelieveably reliable. I have an 06 supercharged SRT albeit Im tuned for about 620 rwhp. Had for a year and a half with virtually zero issues. Granted I dont drive alot, but know guys with 20-30K miles on this setup with no problems. The best investment you can make with that setup is a good set of tires. Maybe sport cups or kumhos...anything but the run flats on the stockers. You are going to be severely traction limited. I had no problem on the stock tires lighting them up at 70 mph. With sport cups its impossible.

A friend and I did a 1-week 3,500 mile road trip in my Paxton equipped '06 Viper coupe (675 rwhp). Ride is rough on bumpy roads, but you get used to it. Still smoother than my old musclecars. 700 rwhp is pretty safe and reliable with a blower, most Viper shops recommend staying under 700 rwhp. It will drive like it is all-motor until about 4000 rpm at WOT, then it will haul butt. I drive mine to work 2 days a week usually, about 40 miles round trip. No complaints, sure wakes me up more than a jug of coffee.
Differences in years:
2003 first SRT-10
2004 better brakes
2006 first SRT-10 coupe
2007 (none exist, they kept selling '06 models)
2008 600 hp, TR6060 tranny, stronger rear axle, more aggressive looking hood, narrower stripes.

Do it! as other have said those motors are strong. Make sure that your SC was installed by someone reputable and you should have no more issues than you would with a stock viper...which is not much.

Do you have a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Viper, or you just making an assumption? I daily drive mine 30 miles in traffic each direction. 50 miles at freeway speeds is nothing.

i can't comment on the viper aspect but i daily drove my C5 z06 for the past two years. went from stock, to supercharged, to blown motor, to built motor and supercharged. a lott of downtime if you bust a motor. and once it was built and i still daily drove it, i opted to get a truck for 10k for my DD and i've been so happy. making it more of a weekend/couple days a week car = less worry, less maintenance, less miles, less depreciating. plus if something does happen you have your DD to back you up.
can you DD it? absolutely. can you run in to problems? absolutely. its whether you wanna take the risk and deal with the downtime IF something happens. especially on a highly modified vehicle.
basic DD with a big powered weekend car =
