1968 Charger R/T J code w/ 6.1 Hemi full cpu
#'s matching body; was a 440 6 pack auto car.
Been drag racing, looking to head more to the tourning now... get more fun out of it.
6.1 w/ Arrington custom PnP heads, cam, 90mmtb, 727 reverse valve body, 4.56 gears, Moser rear, 4 wheel disc brakes, seat warmers, auto headlights on/off, etc... best of both

I was thinking that might happen with this car, considering it's based on the charger (current) chassis. Glad it's a nice vehicle atleast though, a good tribute as well.

You couldn't get a 440 Six Pack in a 68 Charger. Just the 440-4 BBL 375HP or the HEMI 425 HP in the R/T.

Ill PM you the vin; this is a second owner restoration.

OK, and if memory serves correct I think the K code is the 6-pack, R code HEMI...not 100% though. I will find out..

Saw this on a Mopar board and had to respond.
The R/T came with a 440-4 standard in 1968. Its engine code in the VIN is an L. The only optional engine was the 426 Hemi, whose code was a J.
Any information in the previous posts that doesn't match this is totally incorrect.

I'm sorry, but you're either entirely incorrect or you're not being clear on what you're speaking of - what's this "fender" thing? What do A-bodies have to do with this thread?
The VIN of the 1968 Charger begins with XP29. Engines were the Slant 6, 318, 383-2, and 383-4.
The Charger R/T was XS29. I already have stated the engines available.
I assume the "Special" and "Premium" references you've made are in respect to the trim levels but they're really moot for the conversation since the 440 and Hemi were only available on the R/T . . . the trim level with the "Special" designation.

There is no "lightweight" Charger. What is this J code? As 1968 data plates are mostly numbered codes, I feel you've been led astray (just like your assertion that the car originally was a Six Pack).
