04' Viper or 06' Z06, help me out
Okay so I currently have a c6Z06 with a good amount of bolt on mods but came across a pretty good deal/steal for a 04 gen 3 Viper rag top. I test drove it and maybe it's because I'm modded but the viper didn't feel like 505hp. I have owned several cars and never got stuck on one car until this Z06 and thought I would never get rid of it but this deal is tempting me. I know I will be losing speed and power but I will be gaining exclusivity and a car that does not share a body with a lesser model. What would you guys do in my situation?

That is a tough one, the viper although a more rare car, its slower and more dangerous. I say more dangerous because they are so twitchy, one minute you are in it full out, and just when you think you have everything under control, the car spins out. That is the story I get from every Viper owner that crashed, which is almost every one of them.
The Z06 can be made to look more eye catchinbg then that of a stock viper and beat the viper in a race while looking better. My vote goes to keep the Z and mod it to look killer.

Thanks guys this is really helping! Keep em coming. I came on this forum to ask because it was going to be a lot less bias.

defo viper , but try to look for a 06 coupe . it can be made faster than a Z very easily . These had 500 hp , add a tune headers ,CAI ,Decat and you're at 550+ or maybe a paxton for 10K and you're at 650 whp.
Much more exotic looking too .

Why would you care that the Z06 shares the same body "with a lesser model"? That would be the last thing I'd be concerned about.
On looks alone, the Z has it all over the Viper. You've already proven to yourself that the Z is faster and IMO has a much better ride. If you are interested in exclusivity, you gain NOTHING from owning a Viper over a C6Z06.....they are both American made sports cars that I see everyday even in the small town that I live in.

I'm biased but have a friend that just went from a Z06 to a 2008 Viper. He'll never go back. No difference between Gen 3 (2003-2006) Vipers. All have 500 hp. The 2008 has 600 hp. FWIW - I'd go with a Viper for weekends but a Z06 for a DD.

I own both, so I'm definitely not biased. The Z06 is a very nice car, with excellent performance and comfort. The main gripe about the Z06 is that it is just another bellybutton Corvette that you see on the highway every few miles. Zero exclusivity with a Corvette. The only heads it will turn belong to fellow car enthusiasts.
The Viper gets far more attention, from all ages and types of people. You hear the casual "like a rockstar" phrase used often when describing cruising in a Viper. If you do not like fancy cars or attention, the Viper is not for you. I bought one because it has been a dream car of mine since the 96 GTS coupe came out. Mine is an '06 coupe.
You are right about the Viper feeling slow. For comparison, my bone stock '06 Viper went 12.0 @ 119 at the track. My bone stock '09 Z06 went 11.5 @ 125. The Z06 is much quicker stock. But, I put a Paxton and catback on my Viper, and it is nearly 700 rwhp with two simple mods.
Both cars are great, but if I had to pick between mine it would be the Viper. My Z06 is more like my fun daily driver, the Viper is my weekend toy.

I love em both but between those years u mentioned i'd have to say keep your Z06. It's the better performing car stock to stock period and yours is nodded so................
If you are looking for exclusivity then Viper all the way. If you could find a killer deal on an 08 Viper then I'd say Viper hands down regardless of the state of mods on your vette.

Do you want attention or do you want performance?
If you want people to look at you more and like a convertible, viper, if you want a badass fast car and don't care about catching eyes as much or the wind in your face, then z06.
I voted z06

I was just debating this same thing this past week, between a 97 B&W Viper GTS (I just like the style better than the newer ones) and an 06-08 Z06.
I ended up going with the Viper. I just like the raw driving style and for as long as i can remember when i was younger i was never like, "man i want a Corvette", it was always "holy crap someday i'll own a Viper GTS".
It might have crappy interior but it's not that big of a deal to me, it's hard not to smile when driving it.
