SLK AMG for Z06?

Ok, everyday for the past month I’m surfing 997 turbo websites, doing my research, and dreaming of owning a 997 turbo. As I’ve stated in other threads, I love my 06 SLK 55AMG (bought in Nov 2005), but I’m fairly tired of it right now (24K miles). It is too small and frankly not mean enough for my tastes.

So I walk into the Chevrolet dealership to get my Avalanche serviced and I notice they have a used 06 black Z06 with 15K miles (pictures below). They are asking $68K, which I never would entertain. I said I would consider it at $60K, and surprisingly, they didn’t kick me out. I also said I wanted $50K for my trade-in.

I’m guessing I could get it for $63K or so and maybe get $46K for my trade-in.

So the dilemma - do I trade-in my AMG for the Z06...wait a year or two for 997 turbos to go down in price and buy a used 997 TT for $100K down the road? I ultimately will want a 997TT, because I want all wheel drive, a back seat, and Ferrari performance. So I’m thinking maybe the Z06 is a nice “transition” car until I can get the 997TT.

I don’t want this to turn into a Z06 v 997 Turbo thread. However, some questions:

1) What would Jesus do? J
2) Am I crazy for trading in an AMG Benz for a Chevy?
3) Any guesses on 997TT prices in a year or two
4) Should I just say, “you only live once”, and buy the 997TT now by trading in the SLK, paying $50K cash and financing the rest (impossible question considering you folks don’t know my financial situation lol - but asking regardless!). I hate financing, but I’m guessing I can beat the interest by investing. I can pay cash for it all, but don’t really want to do that.
5) Should I just go for an 08 Z06 or MSRP discounted 07? I like the idea of buying used because it saves me money.

The Z06 would be a daily driver. I’m worried about the rear wheel drive in rainy Seattle, but oh well.

Thoughts? (sorry for double post - originally in off-topic but thinking more appropriate here)

A pic of my AMG for contrast

I think the Z06 is a great choice, it's very powerful car and after having a ride and being on corvetteforum for a couple of years now i would say go for it. One member on here really made me think when he commented that the Z06 stock was just as good as his 996tt which he has spent a great deal of money modding (including handling).

60k isn't an amazing price, i would shoot for $58,000

Josh.

The SLK 55 is a sweet ride, but that Z06 is a Man's car.

I am thinking of trading my A4 for for a Vette as well. There is just something about that raw power. Plus I think the gold-chain wearing Vette owner stereo-type is gone. All I can say is at the track these things simply smoke all others. There is a reason that they dominate the Rolex series. I say get the Z06.

Did you say backseat? Is that back seat in the 997 good for anything else besides a cat or 2?

I just saw a friend's 997 and thought he should just rip out the back seats and make that area into a subwoofer/luggage area.

I was rather impressed with the amount of luggage area in my friend's 03 Vette convertible.

The Z06 will put down some stripes! Good luck with the decision.

cheers

I own an 04 speed yellow X50 Twin Turbo. Just the other day I drove a SLK 55. Nice car but completly different then the Porsche. I would inmagine you will feel the same once you buy the z06.

You are correct about the Z06. After driving one yesterday, I think I will stick with my "slow" Porsche.
