Introduction and Price Check
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Gary and I am sure some of you have seen me on Rennlist. I actually signed up for an account a couple of years ago but have just been lurking until now.
The reason I started going to this board more often now is because I am interested in purchasing a pre-owned V8 Vantage. I've had my 996 Cabriolet since 2000 when I bought it new and it has served me well as a daily driver with over 122,000 miles! The car is still pulling strong but it is getting on in age (and miles) so I want to get a newer one. The smart money would be to get another Porsche but I've experienced owning a Porsche and one to try something else -- and I absolutely love the V8 Vantage!
I think I may have found my car but I just wanted to run it past you guys, if you don't mind, since I haven't the slightest clue on pricing of these cars. I found a 2007 Triple-Black Roadster with 5,600 miles for $84K. It has about a year remaining on the factory warranty and another year of CPO warranty after that. The car is a 6-speed and as far as I can tell comes fully loaded -- it even comes with a QuickSilver (sp?) exhaust which sounds great!
Anyway, is $84K a fair price? I understand that the iPod integration did not come out until 2008... how expensive would it be to retrofit the iPod kit, if it is even possible? I guess the good thing is that it already comes with the QuickSilver exhaust which hopefully costs more than the iPod retrofit. Your opinions are appreciated.
Thanks, and I hope to see more of you on this board.

P.S. I test drove a Maserati Gran Turismo yesterday prior to test driving the V8 Vantage today. I loved the Maserati's looks, fit and finish -- and the back seats are actually usable -- but it is more of a GT than a sports car. I liked the power and handling but it felt heavy and not as fun to drive as my Carrera or the Vantage.

Hey Gary,
I am guessing its the one at Tysons? I was there the other day for service and saw a black convert. I think the price is OK if its loaded. I would try to squeeze a couple grand more out of them with the amount of cars they have on hand.
I will say if it is Tysons, the service dept is pretty good, and take care of their customers. That is always worth a couple of bucks to me!

If you don't mind me asking... how often do you drive yours? Have you ever taken it to D.C.? Do you have the sports shift or 6-speed? I plan on driving the car daily but fortunately it's a short commute to and from work -- no Beltway driving.
Thanks again!

I live in Baltimore but get down to the DC area often. My car is a manual, its hard to give up the full control. But the auto is pretty nice.
As for my driving habits, I will put 10K + on per year. I don't really understand all the cars with 2 to 3K per year or less, this car is driveable and way fun not to driving whenever the sun is out. I have an X5 for bad weather that actually averages less road time per month.
