06 amv8 25k mi with possible slipping clutch
hi all,
i'm close to buying an 06 amv8 with 25k miles on it.
The car is immaculate, however the servicing dealer mentions that a clutch replacement was recommended because it has started slipping. But the owner declined.
I drove it and did not notice it, the clutch was heavy and bite point was high, but it seems that they are all that way. Even one with as little as 2000 miles.
If it's of any significance...shifting it at higher revs was also nice and stout.
Let's say the dealer is right and that it needs a new clutch immediately, I'm looking at a $4k-6k bill on an 06 that does have 25k mi.
I guess my question is, would you still buy this car at USD 60k?
Thanks in advance

Hi guys. 4-6k is a reasonable range depending on what your dealer charges for labor. My understanding is that the AM Service Manual reads something like 9 hours for a manual, and just under 10 for a sportshift. So depends what your dealer's labor rates are as well as how many hours they bill for (bear in mind that the service manual is a good guide but not always totally realistic for some jobs)
For those of you who are coming up to clutch replacement time, some good news - RSC is currently prototyping an uprated clutch & lightweight flywheel as a direct replacement for the OE units on the 4.3L Vantages. Should allow for better acceleration, faster, more direct shifting as well as longer clutch life. We are currently aiming for a package which will cost around 5-700 dollars more the OE unit so overall replacement cost would only be marginally higher than the OE installation. Hoping to be able to launch this product within a couple of months time.
