A couple of more add-ons...variable valve timing would NOT likely add much top end power on this car since the cams are pretty aggressive. What it would do is to improve lower-end power.

And for a comparison with the 997...the pre-direct injection 3.8 on the 997S made 355hp and 385 with the factory power kit. Comparable output from a 4.3L engine would be 401 and 435hp respectively. And we know there are plenty of add ons to get even more power from the 3.8 in the aftermarket. Of course they are different engines, the point being that the 4.3 is hardly on the edge of development...there's a lot more power to be had from it if you want.

What about the torque difference though, even with mods (not FI) can the 4.3 offer a similar torque band and numbers? I drove both and thought it was almost a night and day difference, in driving the 4.7 pulled much harder in gear especially from down low, the 4.7 performs real strong for what it's power is.

Its not easy to do, as it requires a reengineering of the heads and engine internals to raise the compression to take advantage of the DI. I am thinking AM should consider the new Jaguar 5.0 VVT DI V8. That should have no problem putting out 450 hp and a much better torque curve.

Agreed this engines potential is not 100% tapped by any means, however VVT would allow even more aggressive cams to be used. Due to idle quality and driveability a non VVT engine is going to be limited cam wise to a degree.

That my friend is called power under the curve, despite the peaks seeming to be pretty close. The power under the peaks is much greater with the 4.7.

IMO, no. The 4.7 has a lot of changes that improve low and mid-range power that can't be compensated for on the 4.3 with basic mods.

That would be a good choice...Jaguar really has leap-frogged AM here. But the more likely scenario would be AM using a derivative of one of the AMG engines on the next Vantage, given their recently formed production partnership.

But AM is definitely capable of doing it...they developed a turbo inline 6 with DI for racing...surely they could do the same for their production cars.

There is a slight problem with that, as of right now the lowest hp version is 536 hp for the Mercedes M157. ( DI twin turbo 5.5) That would step all over the toes of the Aston 6.0 V12 unless of course they plan on moving to Mercedes TT V12. Apparently there is a rumored version that will be between 450 and 475 hp that would be a good fit but too close again to the DB9. Especially since that engine would make more torque and make it at lower rpm than the DB9's V12.

Personally I would love to see a N/A M157 with no boost, retain the DI and make the displacement 5.3 just like the old Vantage. I am thinking it should have no problem making 450 hp and almost matching torque and keeping a redline the same or lower than the current 4.3. And trust me I know Aston is capable of it, there VH platform that was developed in house is just an example of there engineering talent.

Oh I know that lol, what I meant was since people talk about doing bolt on's to the 4.3 to match the 4.7 in hp but they seem to forget about the torque. Not sure what a bolt on 4.3 does for torque, but don't see it matching the overall grunt of the 4.7 especially down low.

Would be interesting if they started using a version of the new Jag engines for their own builds. AM V8 with an AM version of the sc'd 5.0 and manual trans... count me the fawk in for that

Tahoe - have you been able to get any run's in at PBIR?

Not possible with tuning usually on a N/A engine. Without more compression or more displacement the 4.3 will not IMHO have a better power curve than the 4.7.

it's not really possible, since what we're talking about is mostly breathing mods. the flash should give some torque but again, not much.

Not yet, but it's on my list of things to do...I'm just a bit north of there and as a matter of fact I was just talking to a guy yesterday who owns a tuning shop here (as well as a 360 challenge, 430 Scud, 458, 599gto, and others...amazing collection) and he sponsors some track days so I'm hoping it will be soon.

Ironically enough, running these engine super rich absolutely chews up cats. People are replacing cats at 25k or sooner, most OEM cats are supposed to last 80k+ . In fact I bet they did that on purpose for even more revenues .

Don't worry, not just hype , Monday the car is going into the shop ... should be nearing the finish line soon. Sorry for the delay again (was traveling around the world for a while so I haven't exactly been here). The parts delays have been even more frustrating for me than it has been for you guys. But soon everything should snowball. Going to get the RPI exhaust on soon, I do love the stock note but I just need a bit more "oomph" ...

Absolutely rich chews up cars, I know that from first hand experience just not with an Aston Martin. I really like these cars but every time I look them up I end up seeing DB9's priced about the same. Aston Martin does know exhaust notes though!

I think the RPI exhaust sounds amazing. it has a more complex note than non x-piped exhausts.
