DB9 Warranty expiring. What to look out for?
My warranty is up at the end of the month. I just recently purchased the car from a fellow 6speed member and he's taken great care clocking only 3500 miles.
I dropped off the car at the am dealer to service: windshield sound at high speeds, several rattling issues from cabin and rear windshield, passenger door locking issues. All minor
Mechanically the car seems solid, but I was wondering if you guys can point out any things I should check for? If this car is prone to certain mechanical problems I would like to check while I'm in warranty and avoid any major service bills.
I asked the service manager to do a general check on the overall car but I'm sure he's not going to go out of the way to find problems other than the ones I point out.

Mechanically the DB9's are great, I never see any faults with them in the powetrain/drivetrain area's *knock on wood* ....only real concerns I see are door modules and door latches acting up, on convert models the 1/4 glass regulator and the tonneau latch motors go..but looks like yours is coupe so no worries on 1/4 glass reg's and tonneau motors.
You might notice some clutch "Squauk" noise when engaging the clutch, be advised this is normal to the twin plated clutch Aston uses in the DB9..
Any questions let me know and I'd be more than happy to answer..

Spoddle thanks for the recall notice. I will ask the service manager about this. MY2008 is a late model, I believe it was purchased around Oct 2008. I will still check, as it was probably manufactured prior to the recall

Based on my talk with the service manager, AMs have a lot of issues with rattles, which I can live with as long as its not too loud.
They are currently trying to fix wind sounds coming from the front windshield area when going over 60 MPH+. Hopefully they can find the cause.
I'm glad you mentioned the door latch. I also have a problem with the door latch with the locking and unlocking from the passenger side. It works fine when using the key when the engine is off, but many times while the car is on, the unlock switch won't unlock/lock the passenger sdie door. I had to reach over and manually pull the latch for somebody to get in. Is this the issue you were referring to? When pressing the lock switch, I can hear the door trying to adjust as the window moves a bit and the locking sound, but you can tell that its not working based on the sound of the motor that adjusts the window. Its like this double click sound.
The hardest part of this issue, is that it does that only time to time. when I took it to the dealer, it magically worked. Hopefully it will act up again while they service it

My guess would be a lot of "little things" and no big things. If I had kept the car I also would have struggled with extending the warranty or not. The engine and tranny should be fine but not so sure about all the elctronics based upon my experiences. Because labor rate is high and parts are expensive, things could add up. Did you read the fine print as to what's not covered in EW ?
