A car story (with pics)!

I am fairly new to the AM forums. This post is about a DB9 Journey, one that would lead me up through the east coast from Sunny South FL Palm Beach back home with my new Aston Martin...doing what the DB9 does best...brisk speeds cruising on the highway just eating up the miles under her tires.

I had been looking for a rare 6 speed manual DB9 since December of 2011, there were only a few around and I was looking for an '07+ model year so when I spotted this one it immediately caught my eye. I loved the slate blue color and the obsidian interior with deviated arctic blue stitching and Taylors gray headliner, the color combo was spot on for me. Even better was that it was a rare 6 speed manual with the Grazianno rear mounted transaxle! When I looked at the pics the car looked clean inside and out so I did the background check, got the dealer report and records, checked the build sheet and had my chosen AM specialist come in and do a thorough PPI on the car at the dealer in Florida. Everything checked out clean as a whistle...so I booked a ticket for me and a buddy and we flew down to pick her up!

As I was doing my due diligence on the car I noticed that unlike anyone I had seen this car had all the mesh bright aluminum including the rear bar and sensors, I had not seen that on the other DB9s. Things like clear taillights, for example. This car is also an 07 so it had the updated seats, memory control and other upgrades from the '05/'06 model years. There were unique things on this car that I kept seeing that were unlike the other DB9s I kept seeing. This car was a 6spd with the sport pack which was another great bonus, so I got the wheels I wanted and the the suspension, and other bits, DBS steering gear etc...That make all the difference in the performance of the car

For the icing on the cake (and maybe what can explain these unique differences on the car) I came to find out that this particular car is an Aston Martin Press car, this one was made by Aston specifically for the Los Angeles Auto show. It even said so on the sills and the under hood placard. The dealer who was one of the largest retailers of Audi, BMW, VW in South Florida had no clue!! They had gotten this car on trade for an Audi R8v10 GT and took it in not knowing what they were getting ! Come to find out Aston only made a handful of these Press cars and even smaller number of DB9 press cars in 6 speed.

The car was a blast to drive the 1300 miles back home, very sporty I think the manual with the sport pack is key, drove like a dream, and had a great sound! Overall what a car...it's probably the best GT car I've driven, quite fast and torquey, love the looks and grace and classiness with the raw performance and throaty howling sound from the tailpipes, a symphony at WOT. This DB9 can be a sports car when you want it to be or a cruiser when you want. Subtle enough to not draw negative attention yet unique and rare enough to pull the interested eye and capture the enthusiast’s attention. I look forward to learning more about this unique car and enjoying it!

Looks fantastic; love the silver mesh, especially the rear diffuser (wouldn't work with my tungsten, but perfect on the slate blue). It also looks like you've got darker than normal window tint.

Beautiful sunir! Looks like this car has about everything anyone could ask for in a DB9. So the sill plates mention the LA Auto Show?

Yup! and the dealer had no idea they never bothered to catalogue the car's history...I did the background archive search of the car, peered into all the records, build sheets, bespoke listings and discovered this. After the ink dried on the paperwork I showed the dealer . The car is a 2007 made specifically for the 2006 LA Auto show as a press car, Aston makes very few press cars from my understanding and even fewer that have this unique options package - 6 MT, Sport Pack, Silver Mesh package, clear taillights etc.. so I am thinking they put all that onto this car since it was a press car.

Very unique and perhaps more valuable down the road. I almost bought a similary unique DB9 Volante that had been built for the 2006 Chicago Auto Show. It had special build plates like yours. That car was Celestial Blue (something like that) and had a completely blue interior, but it was a 2006 model and TT2. Any way, I kept hemming and hawing and it got sold out from under me.

At least you got what you wanted, plus the unique aspects of your particular car. Great looking car and options.
