Aston Remote/Transponder or Volvo?
#16
I'm sorry to revive an old thread but I managed to lose the remotes on my '05 DB9. If i buy these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-315-MHZ-...07afb6&vxp=mtr
can they be programmed to open the doors and trunks of my car?
Thank you

No, wouldn't work...you need something like a 2005+ S40/S60 looking like this style.. Volvo part# 30772198 (see picture below) ..would require new remote that comes with key codes, if ur shooting for a used remote, and the key codes for a used remote are not given, then avoid it for it's just a useless paper weight and NOBODY has the codes saved somewhere for you to find..don't let the seller trick you

Just to confirm.
I bought a DB9 2004 with only one key.
If I want to add another key what do I need to do?
Purchase a pair of these fobs 30772198 from Volvo and ask someone with AMDS to program them on?
And then take my key and have it copied so it works in ignition?

The fob is a remote to unlock/lock the doors...the Volvo units will just give you the guts to swap into a fob remote..in no way is this repair a mechanical key to turn the ignition like what your needing for a 2004 DB9

Bluntly..new key and new fob from dealer, there is no other option beside searching the earth for the 2nd key and 2nd fob...you can try using a jag mechanical key blank and have it laser cut to match ur aston key, then programed.to the PATS module by the dealer...and then buy the Volvo remote and program it for the doors..but it would look so ghetto, the Volvo remote is also a key for the ignition of a Volvo car, Google and compare that part number to ur remote..unless you just wanted a backup in your house then I guess that ghetto option is ok..eBay options I wouldn't suggest being they need to supply the key ID number or else it's just a high priced paper weight

It's only a backup key.
Why does the metal key need programming? Does it contain some sort of transponder?
I always thought this was in the big fob thing and only that need programming?
IS this the jag key ur on about

Yes that's the key...there is a chip in the key, you don't need a fob to unlock the doors, the key will turn the lock barrel and unlock the door, the PATS will detect the chip in the key and not set off the alarm..but the dealer will need to add the key to the PATS alarm module..aka programming the chip in the key to the car

..be aware I've never tried a jag key, but it's the cheapest option I can think of to try

I actually prefer the older syle machined keys with separate fob. I enjoy putting the key in, turning it then watching the start button light up red before I push it to crank the engine. So much more sense of occasion then shoving a key I to the dash (which cannot attach other keys to it and can easily fall out of pocket.
Most of the body electronics are Volvo (SRS module is perfect example). Most of the engine Electronics are Ford (aka mustang engine).
Yet somehow Aston miraculously manages to create a car far greater than the sum of its parts.... Such is the charm that only Aston Martin can bring

As far as I know, it doesn't do anything for your Aston.
After taking it apart and comparing with the Volvo remote above, you'll notice it's the same remote but with a leather back and the top chopped off. In the original Volvo remote, it held the metal key and would serve as a release of that key.
Since the "aston" remote has a leather back and doesn't have a metal key to hold, it does nothing.
If you have an Allen wrench, open it up and check it out. You'll be disappointed. So ghetto rigged... It only made sense to me after I compared it to the original Volvo version above.

Hello.
Do any of you guys know what type of transponder chip does a 2008 Vantage V8 key uses? 4C or 4D60?
I would like to make a custom key fob with the key part being integrated to the remote. I found that Jaguar X type key looks very similar.
https://www.keylessentryremotefob.co...hoCH44QAvD_BwE
I wonder if the transponder is the same type if the AM dealership will be willing to program it to the car once I have the key made.

Possibly the 4D60 as it looks the same. If you have 2 keys already (which every owner should) you can attempt to program the key part yourself as it's a self learning system. Provided you have 2 programmed. The FOB portion is the dealer part.

Thanks for your reply J double U. I was able to purchase a Crystal Key and swap the internals now I have a fully working remote FOB.
I now have a 3rd key and are about to program the PATS to the car. Do you know the sequence?
