I was out in my car today alone when the 'SRS airbag service' warning message suddenly just came came on as I was driving. There was nothing sitting on the passenger seat.

Over a few miles I read the message several times with the read button and then it went away. After a couple of engine restarts when I was doing some errands, on the rest of the trip it has not returned.

I keep the car on a battery tender, and I had just driven 20 miles, so it's unlikely to be a low battery voltage issue.

Is there anything that I can easily check myself, like under seat connectors etc. I don't want to go to the dealer unless I really have to, they will leave my car out in the rain for birds to poop on it etc.

Earlier this week when spinning the engine over with the throttle fully pressed to put the oil light out before starting the cold engine, I got another message 'Electrical system service'. Again I read the message and it went away and didn't return. I assume this was related to battery drain from the starter motor.

Do I need to be getting worried?

 

The intermittent SRS fault warning has returned several times now. Car has been back with the dealership and diagnosed as having a faulty passenger seat belt buckle, a new replacement is now on order. I really do hope this isn't the start of a load of niggling issues.

 

Update, the car was back in the shop last week, the passenger seat belt buckle has been replaced and so far no further problems with the intermittent warning message.

It's amazing how complicated these modern cars are becoming, it makes you wonder what will be happening 10 years down the line, when relatively minor issues will probably mean the scrap yard for good cars, due to the repair costs.
