More engine oil questions..... Which Castrol???

So, first I have a different oil recommended as the "new" oil than what seemed to come with the car.. I buy a case more and yet again, its another oil . Which is the right one?
or, is Castrol chancing the oil we use and aston recommends every 6 months???

TWS? Sport? Motorsport?

As a dealer we get our oil from BMW, so I say the TWS.

well, that narrows it down to the two on each end. on the Castrol site, they only have the professional listed as an option. so who knows. Castrol mystery oil.

if it's full synthetic, and proper viscosity/weight, would it really matter?

Yes, given this why would it matter?

Are synthetic oils manufactured differently? I used Kendal synthetic when I changed last.

There are certain additives that might be required by the engine. Given the AMV8 engine is relatively unknown, (made from jag block and AM pistons, cranks and rods), If AM recommends a certain oil, I think I would use it.
I wouldn't use Mobil 1 for example, even though Porsche uses it, because that oil was selected because of business relationships between the two companies. the oil turns to water under racing conditions vs redline or amsoil for example.

We have to special order it from the manufactories. We don't order it from Castrol. Its a long process to get it, and we have to order about a 10 case minium each time. I think ur best bet is a dealer.

Some on-line sites indicate Castrol Edge Sport 10W-60 has been discontinued and replaced by Castrol Edge FST (Fluid Strength Technology) 10W-60.

Castrol Edge Professional 10W-60 is still available, but looks to be of lesser quality. It's available on-line for about $14/Quart.

the bmw guys seem to think that the edge professional is the replacement for the motorsport and TWS oil

From what I've seen, comparing current info to what I was seeing some months ago when I was looking into this...

TWS was the good stuff that the BMW guys loved. The formula was updated and it is now Edge Professional. Edge Professional is generally only marketed to dealerships/garages/shops. If I remember correctly, TWS was the oil AM originally had in the V8 Vantage when they first brought it to the US.

The lower grade (or the one with fewer or different additives) was the Syntec RS, which then became Edge Sport. Edge Sport was marketed toward consumers.

Edge Sport was reformulated again to add Castrol's FST additive (or whatever it is), which is supposed to improve the performance of the oil over its lifespan. FST is already in Edge Professional. Edge Sport is now called Edge FST.

With its new formula, it *seems* like Edge FST is now on par with Edge Professional, with the primary difference being marketing.
