Door rattle DIY
For those with a door rattle...
There are 2 major causes:
#1 Armrest nuts fall out.
#2 Loose screws under door panel.
If it's #1, you're in luck, the fix is a 5 minute task (10 if it's your first DIY)
a) Remove the two allen bolts at both ends of the door handle.
b) Pull the door handle and retrieve the nut(s)
c) Remove all 3 nuts and pull the armrest pad
d) Apply loctite to the armrest pad threads
e) Reattach the 7mm nuts
f) Reattach the door handle
This should be done even if your problem is #2 as the nuts will fall out sooner or later...
If it's #2, expect 30 minutes (1 hour if it's your first DIY)
a) Remove door handle (see above)
b) Unhook door latch cable (lift and twist off at latch/cable connector)
Remove both torx screws attaching the latch to the handle.
c) Remove torx screws:
4 under door panel
1 in front jamb
1 in hole under speaker (the lower one)
d) Lift out and up on door panel to detach
e) Disconnect both electrical connections
f) Tighten everything (bolts, screws, nuts)
g) Reconnect electrical connectors and reset panel
h) Put in the torx bolt in the hole under the speaker first, since if this falls out, you will need to remove the door panel to retrieve it.
i) Bolt in the panel (consider loctite for the bottom 4 torx screws)
Extra care reattaching the door latch bracket, the torx screws are soft and can't be over-torqued
If you've still got a rattle, pop the speaker cover from the speaker behind the door (pop off from the bottom and pull up), check for cracks in the cover and tighten down the speaker.
Hope this helps,
Ric :-)
