HELP! Trunk wont open...
#1
If someone out there has experience with this problem, I could really use advice on how to "fix" the problem . My trunk will not open not only from the little silver nipple on the lid itself, but also from inside the cabin on that little switch near the shifter and also from the remote key fob. What do you think? Thanks

If you're limber....
Reach behind the back seats and release the strings on the cargo divider (the one that hold the cargo divider up when opening the trunk)
Pull the release tab on the cargo divider. The cargo divider will drop down into the trunk.
Crawl on in there and reach for the emergency release handle, it's near the back on the underside of the trunk lid.
That's a mechanical release for the trunk so the trunk should pop right open.

Probably the solenoid in the boot latch. I have just fitted a new latch due to the little switch not operating correctly which lit up the dashboard "Boot Open" light.
It also affected the car locking system.
The latch is not expensive and is relatively easy to replace. It is a good idea to mark the position of the old latch as a guide to fitting the new one as there is quite a bit of adjustment available.
The latch is a Volvo part BTW.

The glove box opens. The door locks work as well. However, the glove box did blow a fuse around the same time that the hatch stopped working. But I simply change the fuse and the glove box is fine. Thanks.

Buy the whole boot latch. It doesn't come apart easily as it is riveted together and the rivet shafts form part of the spacer mechanism of the lock. Because the whole thing is so cheap it would be easier to just buy it complete. From memory the solenoid is made by Hella.

Hi Telum01,
I mostly open the boot (trunk) on my 2008 Vantage to plug in my c-tek conditioner.
I pulled the safety release just out of interest (how could you ever get shut in?) and being cheap plastic it fell apart.
Being a woodworker I think I will make a new toggle in rosewood.

"Prove it"
Haven't seen one of the emergency release handles crumble before - that's pretty impressive lol. The rosewood would be really interesting, only concern would be that it wouldn't be glow-in-the-dark like the original (it glows for safety/visibility in the dark). Probably not a concern for most people or most situations hahaha
