Aftermarket air filter DryFlow

First off, I don't see the reason as to why the OE air filter are so expensive... so I was looking around to see if I could find an alternate and I didn't want to go for an oil version like K&N as I don't like having an oil air filter so close to the maf sensor. Anyway, I was using the K&N CM-4058 for its specs as some people are running them inside our air box and found a AEM 21-204BF DryFlow air filter to have the right inside flange size of 3.5in and the correct length of 5.25in. The only part that I am not sure is the base of the filter diameter is 6in vs the K&N which is 5in. Here is the link for the AEM filter

http://www.aemintakes.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=21-204BF
http://www.aemintakes.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=21-204DK

I don't have my car home so I can't measure the inside of our air box to see if it will fit and was wondering if someone here is running this filter or could see if that filter could fit. Let me know what you think

also found a AEM 21-204DK which is the higher performance one :-)

Great info Handyman2009 - I haven't tried these but might order two of the high performance ones to see. I had been looking into a Wix air filter that might work but won't get a chance to see if it will till April. Pretty sure our OE is a Mann filter and last year they bought Wix

If you get two take a couple of pics with them installed. My car is torn apart sitting in a heated garage in Canada - gonna be fun trying to remember how to put it back together in 3 months.

Here's what I had been looking at - bit premature to say if they'll work yet.

Options for OE AMv8 air filters

I'm running the K&N's and if I recall correctly there would be room for a 6" diameter filter in the box. The length is more limiting. Also, really had to work to get the flange over the air tube. Twisting while pushing did the trick.

Ok now that my car is out of storage I ordered 2 x AEM 21-204DK High Performance Air Filter, I was able to fit them to the car but needed to do some modification of the air filter neck as it was too long. Here is a few pictures, once modified they fit snuggly in the OEM air box

I should have some ready to go in the next couple weeks. Was hoping to have them done by now but we're taking a couple extra steps to ensure perfect fitment right out of the box.

Good stuff Handyman2009. I like options. I've come to realize that most Aston Martin PM items et al are priced like car batteries. They might use the same materials, often made in the same factories but priced according to the customer's Marque affordability. Once the label goes on the price get's absurd - why - because it can.

An option for custom filters can be found @ afepower(dot)com. on the front page click on Build my own filter. They make a quality product including "DRY" filters.

So what dimensions do we need for our Asto Martin V8Vantage?

This looks to be a great find. Looks like we can get the best sizes to fit our cars.

Thanks for. Great find.

Gene, I did a quick measurement using the chart to get a price idea. The order of measurements: FD=3 1/2
BD=6
FH=5
FL=1 3/8
IT=flat
RD=5 1/2
FM=ProDryS
that was a guestimate but close to an original air filter diameter. The pricing was $46 Ea plus your ship/tax.

That won't work as the 1 3/8 Flange is too high and you won't be able to put the bottom of the Air Box together. Same as mine above, the flange has to be trimmed to fit

Thanks for. Great find.
Size Height: 140.5mm (plus 6mm neck)
Diameter: Major – 147.6mm / Minor – 147.6mm
Internal Bore: 89.6mm

I have 2 Wix air filters enroute that I anticipate will be direct fit. I will report back their suitability once they arrive. They are $24 USD each.

Those Wix are paper or Performance filter? I assume paper for that price...
