I also have an '06 Volante.
-When the brakes squeal - and they will - get some BG Stop Squeal from eBay and soak the pads in it. It works magic.
-When the gauges go crazy and the lights don't work properly - and they will - the convertible roof module is failing. It's an easy replacement (the module's in one of the wheel wells), but the new module has to be programmed by the dealer's computer.
-When the car develops an uneven idle - and it will - you'll need to replace the twelve coil packs that sit on top of the spark plugs. If you're a competent home mechanic, you and a friend can replace them over a weekend. If not, you can pay a dealer $4,000.
-When the doors no longer open easily and stay open (and the boot, and the bonnet) the assist struts need replacing. It's an easy and satisfying self-fix (start with the boot or bonnet because it's easier to see and understand how the attachment points work).
-When the wood cracks or chips, Madera Concepts is the place to refinish it.
-Go to aston1936.com and read Steve's blog. It's brilliant.
I LOVE my car, and it will still be in my garage when I die. It is absolutely worth getting to know it.

Thank you for this. I've been watching Aston1936 on you tube the past few weeks to try and familiarize myself with the car. Fortunately I'm an halfway decent garage mechanic. My hook in this is my brother is a pro. He works for a Mercedes specialist that also works on slot of high end stuff like Bentleys and Astons. But your post is exactly what I wanted to know. Where all the pitfalls are. My question for you is where do you order your parts from? Do you buy directly from Aston or do you have a secondary source online? (I.e. oil filters, brake pads, air filters, basic stuff).

Go to REDPANTS.LOL for all your parts. Rich is a long time forum member. Also Stuart with VelocityAP and there is one other forum member who's company also sells any OEM AM parts

+1. My nine is plugged in any time it is in the garage. That way it's always happy. Great looking car, enjoy.

The dealer gave me a trickle charger that plugs into the trunk. Is this one any good? Or should I consider something better.

The trunk-connection units are fine. There have been a few cases where owners gave found themselves locked out of their cars with dead batteries, however, and no way to access the trunk. Because it wasn't hard, I ran a second connection with a little pigtail hidden in the grill slats. While I can't jump the car from there, I could get the battery back up to respectability with a battery tender if I were shut out.
