Or the seed code attached to the key is somehow wrong. Unlikely, however possible.

Yes, if I can prove that the fob is transmitting then that is the most likely explanation or the container isn't the right one for the key.

I don't think the plastic container was sealed when I got it so you wouldn't know if it had already been opened.

Yay, I finally got the fob working. I tried keeping an eye on the battery connectors as I closed the case and realised that the one on the right didn't look like it would actually touch the battery. I did a quick google for images and spotted that it should be vertical not leaning back so it possibly got bent when I first opened the case to see if a battery was fitted.

Unfortunately it snapped off when I tried to bend it back but a soldering iron seems to have stuck it back on again OK and it now locks and unlocks the car!

Thanks. It is quite easy to bend it because that terminal fits into a cutout in the plastic case so if, like me, you are not careful when putting the fob back together the edge of the cutout will catch on the terminal and bend it.

I put the working circuit board into my second crystal key this afternoon so have two fully working fobs now but I may still look around for a proper Aston valet key as I am worried I will drop a crystal key and damage it!

The other option is to look around for a new plastic case and transfer the innards over. I have found a brand new case for just over £100 but does anyone know of a cheaper source?

I’ve always been afraid of deleting a key by mistake as I don’t have the codes to re program it. My best guess is to get a Volvo key with new codes from the Volvo dealer and program that in them swap the circuit board. Pill stays with the cristal key. I assume you deleted the key fob by mistake and not the pill.

If you deleted the pill by mistake then you need to go through the ford key procedure if you have 2 active keys.

it’s a complicated system, and I’m sure I could explain it better so feel free to ask questions.
