Aston Martin Oil Filter - internals
I've been staring at the used oil filter that came with my DB for almost a year. I finally took a cut off tool to it to look inside.
It is a really well made filter. It has .02" walls (most have .015", a nice coil bypass spring that seems the same as a 22 PSI springs in other filters. Uses a silicone anti-drain back valve (which is unnecessary in the DB9 given the angle it's mounted at) and while I didn't unroll it, appears to be stuffed full of a large # of pleats of filtration material.
Looks identical to the WIX and NAPA Gold filters (the best you can get). Nice to see that AM didn't go cheap.

If you buy your filters in pack of 10 (9G33-6714-AA-PK) like they sale at Scuderia you will be paying only about $17.95 ea so in my book like Rich is saying not worth putting the engine at risk by using different type of oil filter. just my 2 cents here

Concur, I wasn't trying to start a filter war, but the conclusion I came to was that AM was private labeling a high quality filter and thus could be used with no worries. If it was a Fram I would have had a different opinion!

Scuderiaparts sell the plugs for $18.72 each? That's $56 for three.

Hi...you need to check other vendors. Rich at Redpants sells filter..3 plugs...washer for 4.7 for around $ 70 dollars...less around $ 62 for 4.3 engine.
Before I got to know Rich I used Miller in NE states and even eBay lists these cheaper by overstocked dealers etc...AMbits overseas sells packages too but I have no idea if cheaper after shipping cost.
Reusing the plugs are not recommended...I have never reused them but I have read where others have reused. If you ruin your engine it will cost
Probably $40,000.00 to replace.
Good luck and safe driving...

Can you reuse the copper washer and the 3 sump plugs when you during each oil change?

Keep in mind the sump plug is a stock ford part, that is typically reused for years on end. Even if it starts to leak, it would be seeping a couple drops at worst. If you change it buy it from Ford or auto parts store for $5.

The specification does seem very similar to the WIX 51372. I wonder why most filters use a flat spring steel retainer instead, including the more heavy duty Ford Racing CM-6731-FL820 filter. What is the physics here? A crimped retainer spring seems more robust to me than a loose coil spring that could possibly float.
I'm guessing the retainer spring gets used on every cold start?
Anyone know the Ford part number for the drain plug and throttle body o-ring? Or the measurements of either?
