thanks - this is great! Redpants mentioned that some do it this way and remember to take off your watch if so to avoid breaking the windshield of it suddenly releases. The only thing is that as mentioned he gives bad advice apparently about using the trim tool on the sides as that will crack the veneer.

question for you: it’s seems to be that they are much stiffer (and harder to pop out) if they’ve never been removed before. Had yours been removed at some point?

Sorry, I have no idea if it had been removed before.
If you look at the shape of the fasteners on the metal backing it seems that there really isn’t a need to pry to release them.

Thanks again. Would you happen to know (or how to find out) if a 2012 V8VS has the metal backing?

Sorry, I don’t know when the change from plastic to metal backing took place but you can probably tell which one you have by opening the NAV screen and looking closely at the surrounding edges.
