May I suggest uploading it to Youtube?

You can set it as 'unlisted' and will not appear in youtube, only the people with the link to it will be able to see it.

Here's the link to my new YouTube (interesting process) video of a irregular background tick that sounds like a pebble hitting a window. 4.7 with 39K miles.. recent oil/filter, upstream O2 sensors, and throttle body replacement. No CEL or Foxwell codes. Not apparent on start-up but after car has idled for a few minutes.
Vacuum leak, mis-fire, plugs&coil time???

Thanks

4.7 is a noisy engine to begin with vs the 4.3 engine. Sometimes a fresh oil change does 2 things. 1 makes you pay attention to little things 2 increased power and driving skills. Personally I would not worry about it unless you have other issues arise.

i hear it, and if what i'm hearing is what you're hearing it doesn't sound like it is consistent or tied directly to the RPM like a rod knock or lifter would be. i'd be wanting to look into it and hope it involves an accessory. sounds like a loose bit of metal being thrown up against the crankcase or a cover plate. maybe a ball bearing or nut?

I have the same noise in my car, it's described in this thread:
V8 Vantage intermittent engine noise - 6SpeedOnline - Porsche Forum and Luxury Car Resource

I am inclined to think that it is a therman insulator rattling, or something of those sorts.

I have also found another video in youtube where another owner of a Vantage has the same noise:
(It seems that I can not find it now)

Hmm...vvt housing and cam phaser. Good thing I have some spare time on my hands. Many thanks for the input from all. I’ll update as I find out more (that 4.3 video sounded identical).

You can also hear it in this video between second 16 and 18:

the more V8 Vantages I hear, the more I realise this noise is present in all of them.

And this is the video I meant before.

It makes the intermittent ticking noise (at the beginning of the video) and also the clutch noise, my car has both:

I have that "gravel in the bearing" sound, as well. I hear it coming more from the back of the car than the front, and almost exclusively at idle. I thought it was a bad input shaft bearing at the transmission, but after reading some threads on here I'm now disabused of that notion. A new set of plugs and a tune that bumps the idle up will, apparently, fix the issue. I had planned on doing the tune anyway, since I had the VAP twin disc clutch installed and the lightweight flywheel exacerbates this noise a bit.

Calling Stuart... you in here, bro? Got any discounts on tuning?

Kalepsis -

I believe what you are hearing/describing towards the rear of your Vantage is called ‘Gear Chatter’. This was discussed my Mike of Bamford Rose and he indicated that it was just the slight difference in gear tolerances that produce this noise. He indicated that it was not an issue and that nothing is wrong.

Also stated by Mike, and backed up by a highly qualified Aston Martin technician I spoke with, if your Aston has gear chatter, then fitting a dual plate clutch and lightweight flywheel will most likely make that chatter more noticeable.
