The dealer has probably already done a significant diagnosis on it; as stated earlier, they aren't dummies. That arm of the business is well versed in how to make money off of broken cars and sell them as "like new!" to unsuspecting buyers, and at a premium.
Just go buy it and put a hemi in it. Or a small block chevy. Don't forget your mullet wig when you're doing the swap.

About 30 years ago I was going through divorce and had to sell my 1987 stock Porsche 928 which was worth about $3K less than it's loan. I was driving it on a first date to a play, in Minneapolis on a rainy night and at 30MPH, the car literally exploded as if it hit a wall head on. The windscreen popped out, the fenders buckled, the left front wheel torn off, and absolutely nothing in front of me - as if I hit some sort of force field. My date shook up not hurt, I had some bruising and cuts from the steering wheel. Turns out they were to re-pave the street and a manhole had just caught the lower frame at the front of the car. The cop who came out looked and said - looks like the City of Minneapolis is buying that car from you. Good thing because they paid $4k more than my loan. About a year later I get this angry call from this guy who said he bought the car from the junkyard for $6,000 and was using a very upset tone and asked if I knew that the engine block was cracked, and that the torque tube had destroyed the transaxle (as if that was my problem). I told him not my problem and that he essentially paid $6K for a decent set of Porsche seats.
