Was always curious on that actually. Kind of figured it had something to do with what he stated, but wasn't sure.

It's manufactured exclusivity which in turns generates desirability and artificial supply constraints. Luxury goods 101.

But it is in line with Enzo's original ethos of treating customers like crap, and only as a means to an end to fund his racing program.

Is it? If there are more way more buyers than product, shouldn't long standing customers have some preference? It's like that in every business that relies on relationships and loyalty.

All the guys I know that own Ferraris acquired them from someone that was not an AD, save one or two....all the guys I know that own Rolexes acquired them from someone that was not an AD, save one or two. IMO, I do believe that there is some artificial manufactured exclusivity for these brands, which is probably ok. But I think it also relates to the reason that particular buyer wants that vehicle, or watch. One guy I know buys AD only (both cars and watches) because he likes that status and prestige. I just want the watch/car, and that's the group I run with, and I think that's ok, too. Leno is a buyer I could never aspire to be like my buddy, like David Lee, and other collectors like that. But I think both lanes are ok....

BTW, I happen to have known Ferrari's new CEO....he ran a division of the company I used to work for...been in a few meetings with him....don't see Ferrari changing their culture under him....happy for him and his opportunity, though....
