Aston Martin DB9 stuck in 4th gear

My DB9 was stuck in 4th gearRecently i bought an Aston Martin DB9. After owning it for a couple of weeks it was difficult to go from 3rd to 4th (automatic), one day. Anyway the car went in to 4th and display said along the lines of "gearbox fault reduced function" and got stuck in 4th.I took the car to LSM in Norfolk as they are near me and Aston Martin approved.
heard nothing so after about 5 days i contacted them, they told me "technician carried out full investigation and inspection and has topped up the gearbox oil (1 liter) and carried out a full road test. The vehicle now goes into 4th (it was stuck in 4th in the first place, what about the other gears!!), however it is still quite harsh going into 4th" (£510 inc VAT). There was no mention of a code PO735 "incorrect gear 5 ratio". Which i find strange ( i have a Foxwell 530 for AM).
The next process they recommend is to carry out a full gearbox oil change and check the oil when draining for any contamination ( £948 inc vat, this includes parts and labor, although it does not mention what parts, filter, bridge seal, valve seals, pan!!!! I have asked this but no reply as of yet ). Then they went on about 2 tyres and a wiper (which are not much use if i cannot drive the car!!!!).
So a couple of things can anyone help please has anyone any idea of the problem? Will this help or is it gearbox failure?

They might be Aston Martin approved but they apparently know nothing about automatic gearboxes. You might have to find a specialist who repairs these transmissions.

If you're in the UK, there are a plenty of other competent shops to repair your car right the first time. How far is McGurk from you?

Hi,

Sorry about your transmission problems. FWIW, that ZF transmission is really popular and used by many cars. Unfortunately the unique install will likely require you to go to an AM specialist to get it fixed but the ZF 6HP26 transmission is well known and parts for rebuild are readily available (see for example here: https://go4trans.com/transmission/6hp26/). Automatic transmissions are great until they are not... You didn't say how many miles were on it but they typically have a "lifetime fill" of fluid. It appears yours is at the end of life.

Best wishes
Larry

Thanks for you replies. Its only just done 54000 miles. I really don't want to hear about a wiper and 2 tyres, think that's the least of my problems. I want to hear about what is the problem. Not we can re-fill and see what we get, to me that's £948 down the drain. I am thinking of getting it to maybe JT automatics ltd. They give a fixed price for gearbox's, torque converters etc. plus a 2 year or 24000 mile warranty. has anyone used them or come across them. So no hidden suprises.
As you say there are a few places around. I will have to decide soon. McGurks is about 170 miles away.

More information about your car (year, etc.) may help other members with pointing you in the right direction. Additionally, P0735 can at times be corrected with a fluid flush/fill. Depending on how previous owners drove the car, this may be a good starting point.
