How often & how frequently should I check my V8V coolant?
Even tho' my car only 20K on the clock, it's 14 years old......any thoughts gents? No, it's not running hot but it's a big V8 and in Virginia summers, it WILL get warm in the E compartment!
Thanks in advance.

There are corrosion protectants in antifreeze that are consumed with age. After about 12 years my Mercedes M272 engine developed a small leak at the water pump. At the point of the leak where the coolant was able to react with air there was a large amount of pitting on the aluminum sealing surface of the pump and timing cover. It seemed like the ancient coolant became corrosive to aluminum at some point. Luckily a little RTV added to the factory gasket sealed it up, but it sure did teach me a lesson.
Stick with the recommended refresh interval and keep an eye out for leaks.

There's a low coolant sensor, when it gets down about 2" in the overflow tank it come on and tells you long before you need to worry about it. But, if it's never been drained it should be.
