A3 2.0T FWD vs. V6 AWD

I am considering the A3 as a fun DD. I was told by the salesperson that the 2.0T fwd is more fun than the v6 awd. Any opinions.

thanks in advance.

I've had a 2.0t fwd for a little over 2 years now.
I've never actually driven the v6 for comparison...but can say that the general consensus on the Audiworld or Fourtitude A3 forums is that the 2.0 is more fun to drive.
Feel free to ask questions...what other cars are you considering?
Pic of mine....

A friend has a 2.0T (ECU remap), and although it's a DSG, it's really fun to drive. Don't know how the V6 would be though ... mmmmm ...

Not an A3 but Ive got a Frontrak B6 A4 with 300whp right now on a GT28RS, its a ton of fun to drive!!! Will be even more fun when my GT3071R gets here and I get up to 400whp

And turbo motor > NA for similar HP not to mention its tuning abilities!!!

Ummm, the 2.0T S-Tronic is fun to drive, but the 3.2 Quattro is A LOT more fun IMO. I have driven both including some GIAC upgraded 2.0T's and I think the 3.2Q is more enjoyable. The price jump is significant however. I will also tell you that most S-Tronic A3's will waste tires in less than 20K. I work for Audi and see it on a weekly basis, and it has also been brought up in a number of magazine reviews.

That being said, they are both great cars, but I would go for the Quattro drivetrain

to me, why get an audi unless its awd... but thats just me.

It's really too bad they don't make a 2.0T quattro.

the 2.0T is more responsive and nimble feeling over the 3.2, that being said, the 3.2 sounds a whole lot better. and it's quattro. it really depends on what you're looking for. the 3.2 doesn't feel any faster than the 2.0T most of the time, at least in the A3 as the weight parity negates the power increase.

me personally, I'm a quattro kind of guy, and I have to have a stick so I would choose neither.

I agree with you guys on the Quattro thing...apparently the 2.0t quattro will be here in North America in the next year or 2.
I've had mine (6spd) for a little over 2 years...had it to about 8 track days. Really fun car, very toss-able and overall great to drive but front wheel spin, especially when it's wet out is a real pita.
I've driven a friends S4 and TT since getting the A3 and must say in any climate where you get alot of rain Quattro is awesome...it's great to be able to floor it into traffic or wherever with little or no wheel spin.

we recently got our used a3 and honestly...we love it (it's the wifes car)

i think it's the perfect car
we have the 3.2q

the downsides are that it's pretty heavy on gas for it's class (which is expected due to a v6 and quattro...and we knew this getting in) and that it's very expensive for it's class to buy....and it's dsg only (which is fine for my wife)

but apart from that we love it...it's a rocket and a joy to drive -- and the quattro is beautiful in the snow.

if i lived in a warm snow free climate tho i'd consider the 2.0t chipped.

i'm not related to this seller whatsoever

but this looks like a good one if you can get the price down a bit (and don't hate the colour)

why dont you go with an a4. Theyre trying to get rid of them since the new ones are coming in. A3 quattro uses haldex comes in dsg only. The a3 2.0T has massive torque-steer I had one as a loaner no point of buying a fwd audi go for the gti cheaper then that or go with an a4

Have to agree. Fun and torque steer don’t mix. Audi is Audi only because of Quattro. I have yet to drive a better awd system. When the weathers bad, snowing or raining, getting to where you need to go without being slowed down abit is even more fun.

What do you think an awd Porsche is? Just a reversed Audi! Don’t think twice, Quattro. Would you want a fwd 911? Not saying a fwd car isn’t a great car. Still the same quality and craftsmanship, just not designed for driving fast. I asked some of the sales people at my local dealerships, no one even owned an Audi! I was at an Acura dealership (NSX) and started talking to a sales person about how great Audi and Quattro is. He was raving about it. I asked him if he owed an Acura, all he said was yes. Nothing more nothing less. But he was excited about his Audi. Points being Quattro is the only way to go, and sales people aren’t always reliable when it comes to performance driving suggestions.
