I don't know why, but I can't see how Audi hopes to move any of these things at over 40k. Is it just me or are these compact SUV's getting too pricey for their own good? I wouldn't pay anywhere above 35k for any mini SUV.
The BMW X3 has been a good seller (allegedly-I don't see that many of them at all) and I think that is incredible considering the sub-par interior for a 40k vehicle. And the drive experience in this thing is not nice either.
The RDX? E35? sub 35k and they are overpriced IMO.
If they aggressively lease them out like with the A4, success is guaranteed.

The X3s are a nice vehicle. I worked at BMW Canada when they first launched and had a few for a program I ran prior to them hitting the streets. I like the driving experience a lot, especially in the 3.0 with a manual transmission. While I can see what you are saying about their interiors, that was done on purpose. BMW wanted to market it to people with active lifestyles (biking, boarding, etc) who needed a tougher interior that they didn't have to worry about damaging.
I think the Q5 will be a more upscale option to the X3.

I saw this as well and I walked right past it. I am in the market for my wife a new suv and we just got rid of our X3 sport with the 19's and it blew the Q5 away. I was very dissapointed...I dont know what we are going to do.

My wife and I are expecting our first child, we went SUV shopping on the weekend and I've come to the conclusion that the X5 is really nice...
.. but I can get a Cayenne V6 demonstrator or low mileage Cayenne S for the same money.
Which would you choose?

I tracked the Cayenne GTS and I was impressed with its abilities for an SUV. I also have taken a Cayenne S with an offroad course and was extremely impressed with its offroad performance. The S seems to have better throttle response then the X5 4.4 I've driven.

In the case of my wife's car, performance is a "nice to have", even so, I'd prefer the Cayenne all day before the X5.

Or, worst case, you just love the Range Rover

Yeah she loved it, and it rode much nicer stock for stock than the Porsche or BMW. Plus we were going to put rims on whatever we decided on and the ride of the Porsche and BMW was just this side of harsh for her.

FYI, my friend's wife said the same.
Six months later they're waiting for their new X5

We had an FX45 , too agressive for her. Then XC90 V8 Sport, she really loved that car in every way except for one thing. It just didn't look like a $60k car , in fact most people were shocked how much they cost. And we never really loved the way it looked. In fact performance wise pretty close to an X5 other than outright handling.
When we got it back from getting the rims done on it, she was really in love!
