Audi RS5

What's your call about the upcoming RS5? I read on several websites that it's going to carry the famous 4.2L V8 boasting 450hp+ and 330lb-ft+ of torque. Some sites claim a 0-60 of 4 sec? That's the R8 V10's 0-60! I doubt it's true though, more like 4.5 sec.

7 speed DSG sure will be great.

I'm about 90% sure they are correct in it having a 4.2 from the RS 4, tweaked to about 450hp. 0-60 would be mid 4's, not 4 flat. As an R8 owner, you know this engine is a darling

It should be gorgeous, and if they put some nice fender flares on it, it should be mean as well as gorgeous. Either way I think it'll be a great car. I was thinking of trading my RS 4 for one, but it's hard to pay that kind of money simply to change body style (same engine, just moving from a sedan to a coupe). If' it's $80k+ then I'd probably rather buy a lightly used 997 GT3/Turbo.

You are right. I double checked and the RS5's 0-60 will be in the mid 4's and not flat 4's. The R8 engine is indeed fantastic but the car overall is even better: balance and handling are a bliss. Although nothing beats the looks of the R8 (personal opinion) the RS5 will indeed look good (especially without fog lights, never liked fog lights, had them removed on my old M3); it's expected to sell at around 90K but nothing is official yet. A 997 is not a bad idea (if you like the way 2 door Porsche look, I know it's weird I say that as I own a a Porsche but I only find the 2nd generation Cayenne very nice), you'll sacrifice a bit of comfort and convenience for better performance.

As the new TT RS, I wouldn't count on it coming to our shores unforunately...

I don't know....Audi is currently without a production RS model here in N. America, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it come here.

Kinda hard for me to categorize this car. Two door, quasi-hard core sports car / quasi-two-door sedan. Simiar price range to the 997, true, but the body-style, engine placement and trunk space seem to fit it with the M6.

With the US dollar further nosediving, the price tag may be too large to swallow (would get too close to the R8)... That alone could prevent a US entry...

x2. Audi doesn't bring a lot of the really cool cars over to the U.S. México does get the European models though and it is cheaper than importing from Europe too.

The RS5 will be available at the beginning of next year (hopefully in the US as well), it´s got an upgraded 4.2 V8, similar to the R8 V8 but with 450BHP instead of 420. i think they will upgrade the R8`s V8 at the end of next years as well. 0-62 will be around 4.5sec. dual clutch tranny will be an option and it carries a small, retractable rear wing. it will be one of the most beautiful cars in the world, no doubt.

By dual clutch option, you mean on the RS5? The RS5 sure will be sweet.

yes, the 7speed S-tronic (Audi´s DSG/dual clutch tranny) will replace the tiptronic in Audi´s line up and the RS5 will be available with it from the beginning.

Might be a good deal at maybe 75-80, but no way at 90k.

I wouldn't worry about the dollar preventing the export to the US. The cost of safety and emissions testing/upgrades usually prevents limited editions from getting overseas.

Otherwise, I can't believe they will make it faster than the r8. That should preclude turbos.

I think its too early to tell. Anything said right now is just speculation. Remember, we were all wrong about the B8 S4.

the rs5 could potentially be the car audi has needed for a long time to revive the brand. granted sales have been improving every year, however they havent really had a car that could knock the m3 off its pedestal. if and when the rs5 comes out, this could be it. give the rs5 some flared fenders and a bit more of an aggressive nose and i think we have a winner if its coupled with the rumoured engine specs that have been floating around the net.
