Audi-powered, street-legal (TUV) Gumpert Apollo-S grabs Ringrecord - 7:11min
I thought that news might be interesting for (us) Audi fans:
The Apollo is the first creation of former Audi motorsports boss and Audi chief engineer Roland Gumpert. The car features a lot of Audi parts and it is powered by a twin turbo Audi 4.2L V8 (formerly used in the RS6). Its carbon fibre body sits atop a chrome molybdenum alloy and steel frame with a better power to weight ratio than a Mc Laren F1. There are 3 engine types available, a base version with about 641.11 bhp (478 kW; 650 PS), a sport version with around 690.42 bhp (515 kW; 700 PS), and a race version with around 789.06 bhp (588 kW; 800 PS), all street legal. Top speed is 360 km/h (220 mph) with 0-100 km/h (62 mph) reached in 2.7 seconds and 0-200 km/h (120 mph) in 7.9 seconds. The manufacturers claim that because of the immense downforce of the car in theory it could drive upside-down in a tunnel if driven at sufficiently high speeds (over 190mph, though this remains to be tested. )
the one that clocked the 7:11 was the 690BHP (Speed/Sport) version.
here is a link and the lap video, the driver is Florian Gruber (an Audi R8 LMS pilot), enjoy:

The air has a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and the sky is clouded. At 12:55 p.m. professional race driver Florian Gruber (age 26) crosses the line of the Nurburgring Nordschleife and unleashes the 700 hp of his Gumpert Apollo Sport. He has set off into a race against the clock. 7 minutes, 11 seconds and 57 hundreds of a second later Gruber crosses the line again. With an average speed of around 106,78 mp/h (171,84 km/h) around the legendary 13 mile racetrack, once felicitously entitled “the green hell” by racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart, the apollo was by 3,32 seconds faster than the former record holder. And – by the way – more than 13 seconds faster than the Maserati MC 12 in 2008. "And, well - I even could have gone a little faster", said the pretty unimpressed driver after coming back into the pits. And not even one drop of sweat on his brow after the record lap. “The conditions were good, but not perfect – so we have still got potential to go faster”, concluded Florian Gruber "a time under 7 minutes is possible". The apollo sport in standard factory specification was equipped with road legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and an adjustable suspension by KW suspensions. Roland Gumpert, former Head of AUDI SPORT and managing director of the gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur, adds with a wink: “It is great that we broke the record of TUV approved, street legal production cars and that we were able to show the potential of the apollo – but at this stage there is no need to go faster. We don’t want to demoralize our fellow competitors by now…”

I've witnessed the Apollo in person on numerous occasions. Its an amazing vehicle. Combine that with an outstanding display of driving and this is the result.
