R8 prices falling?

I've noticed a number of below average prices for R8's hitting the market. A couple of 2009 4.2's for under $100k, a 2010 4.2 for $114k, and a 2010 5.2 for $129k. A trend?

Something is up. Not long ago, the dealer here couldn't keep an R8 for a week. Now, he has one pre-owned and six new ones on the lot!

Not sure if the market is saturated or if people are waiting due to the rumors of a DSG version.

I traded my Audi TTS for a Porsche Cayman, but the R8 is my dream car. If I had the financial means, the R8 would be the first car I'd look at. However, I'd never consider a DSG in a sports car. But that's just me.

I'm a bit astonished at the surprise that R8 prices have declined. ALL auto prices go down unless it's a limited run like the Ford GT. However what I have seen is that R8 prices have declined equal to or less than its peer group of Porsche and Lamborghini. I have a 5.2 and don't plan on selling, so price is not relevant. If you're a potential buyer, take advantage of any deals you see because it's a great car.

The depreciation of the R8 is not bad at all for a mass production car. If it's any consolation, look at how much cars like the Scuderia and 997 GT2 depreciate. The 2009 Scuds with MSRP over $300K are now going sub 200K. The 2008 GT2 was selling over $200k are now in the 120s.
IMHO, a car that depreciate the most is the one that doesn't get driven.

I'm just noticing what looks to be a trend. They were holding tight for a while and now seem to possibly be taking a turn downward. Or it could just be a few anomalies.

It's just simple supply and demand, nothing sinister. The R8 4.2 only entered the market a few years ago. There were 2 year waiting lists because the pipeline had to be filled and Audi had limited production capacity. After 3+ years the pipeline is full and used cars are hitting the market, especially with the introduction of the 5.2. Now the pipeline is filling up on 5.2's and used cars are beginning to hit the market. Dealers used to be on allocation, but can now build one out pretty quickly. Having said all that, Audi still keeps R8 production volumes low due to capacity, and having to share that between the 4.2, 5.2 and Spyder. That should help keep values from plunging.

the V10 hurt the 4.2's sales. The are now a few relatively inexpensive mods that you can do to the 4.2 V8 that honestly make it a great buy preowned if your after performance but don't want to pay V10 money.

There's a 2009 5.2 used for sale in Fontana CA at a Honda dealer of all places. Higher (?) mileage (23K) but the cheapest used 5.2 I've seen by far. Asking $119K... wow that seems like a great price- or are people worried about the mileage? (I wouldn't be)

GPS, fully loaded and MSRP of $164K, new tires all maint. records - somebody jump on this! I would myself but other priorities are forcing me to wait... argh.

BTW - between this and the 2010 Porsche turbo PDK I saw for $114K locally I'm liking my options in 6 months or so :-)

Let the buyer beware. You get what you pay for. These cars both look like they have seen better days. No thanks.

I d buy from an Audi Dealer with a CPO.

Agreed, the 08 from carmax looks pretty rough from the pictures, but a great price. The 5.2 looks in good shape, but the carfax (didnt access the full report) shows something like 18 records. I would stay away from both.
