Forced Induction on R8 V10

I am curious how many people on this forum have modded their R8 V10 with a forced induction system, and if so, the reason you went with a supercharger vs twin turbo or vica versa. Also curious if the drive train had to be modified or if the stock one is robust enough to handle the additional power. I've done the exhaust and ECU flash and have recognized how addictive power gains can be.

You have two options like you said, Supercharger or a Twin Turbo kit. What are your power goals? The R8 is very capable, it all comes down to what you're looking to spend and how fast you want to go.

How much is enough is a valid question. I guess the root of the question is how far can you go with bolt ons before other drive train changes are neccesary. For example when I research Stassis, you get power up to 710 crank HP by supercharging with additional upgrades in tires and brakes. With Heffner you get 850 HP at the crank. Neither site mentions any changes to clutch, gearbox, etc. Can the R8 handle all that? I had a friend mod his C6 Vette. Shortly afterward he burned out his clutch, gearbox, then finally his rear differential. I'm looking for feedback on real world experience for the R8. Thanks.

I've personally driven quite a few R8s and almost every super car short of a Veyron, so i will give you my opinion on the R8 with a power adder. The R8 drivetrain is very reliable, enough to handle some added power and still beat on it if you intend to. But if you are worried about the clutch, you can always upgrade when you do the modifications. We have seen very few issues regarding the drivetrain, even on some heavily tracked R8s. Heat build up is another issue. Even some stock V10's have seen some high heat issues, not to mention the supercharged and turbo R8's. So depending on how much you abuse the car, drive it hard will determine what needs to be done to the car to make it faster. Give me a call at the shop or send me an email if you have any other questions. -Danek-
