S8 V-10 engine seized-up
2007 S8 with the V-10 engine siezed-up while the dealer was working on it today. Anyone know anything or ever hear of this happening before? I can't believe it. I'm crushed.

if they ran it without any oil or coolant or dropped something in the intake that would sieze it up in a hurry...whoever takes the motor apart should be able to determine the cause rather easily

I've never heard of any Audi engine suffering from sudden seize problems.
The KO3 turbos had problems.
The 4.2 V8 had oil coking issues.
But I have never heard much about the V10s.
No one will be able to really say what happened until a complete tear down and inspection is done.
Also, I'd pop my head into the Lambo forum since the same engine was used for the Gallardo.

it's the same engine as gallardo detuned. it's bullet proof. what work was being performed?
the engine is chain driven and that needs to be inspected and possibly replaced when mileage is 75k.
i would get a full analysis done by another party. the mechanic may not be honest.

I would get all your facts together..
Just posting in a forum that the engine seized up while getting serviced is just going to start a lot of mud slinging.
If its a dealer I would suspect that they would stand behind the work that they do and if they screwed up they will fix it.

That approach will get you far with the dealer...

yea, they will only rip me off once. i am not stupid enough to go back to them.
not all dealers are crooks, not all are honest either. there are always bad apples. you just can't be too trusting.

What I know so far
So I took the car in because the check engine light was on. They fixed the Intake Flap Motor and put in a fuel additive. Light was off but came back on during their test drive. Tried to fix by doing a Carbon Flush, and while doing it the engine seized up. That's what I have been told. I have not seen the engine yet.

Tack on another $4,000 for installation.
In the end, it may very well make more economic sense to part out the car.
That's the part that scares me about premium cars that use parts from an exotic. When something goes "boom" it costs just as much as an exotic to fix. You get all the pain without any of the pleasure of owning one.

I think the shop should be able to fix/rebuilt the engine. They won't pay you a new or used engine but they can repair it at their cost. The next step is to remove the top of the engine. Something must have gone wrong there.

The owner could have rev damaged the engine previously or made modifications.
There is more to be determined before blame and ultimately responsibility is assigned.

Pretty hard to "rev damage" an automatic with as many limiters as an S8 has.
