2005 S4 vs. 2006 S4

I'm looking at purchasing either an 2005 S4 or a 2006 S4 for my daily driving car. The pricing on low mileage 2005's seems almost too good to be true. What are the major differences between the 2005 and the 2006? And are those changes worth the extra couple grand in price? It seems you can pick up a 2005 for 35k where as the 2006 is in the low 40's.

a new 2006 S4 for low 40's? i know there are some great deals out there, but that seems too good to be true. my buddy just picked one up, with sport package, premium package and technology package i think for $2k BELOW invoice and he paid $48XXX.

Not new. Slightly preowned. I should have clarified that.

Gman - The engines and interiors are essentially identical. The major difference (other than the year your warranty runs) is the facelifts that the 2005.5s got, the "B7" model. The 2005 model is the older look.

The other difference in 2006s vs. 2005.5s is that the newer ones come with cool BBS-style rims instead of the AVUS spokes. I don't think there are any/many other differences -- maybe the newer ones have better color options?

Personally, I don't like the 05 look, so if all goes as planned, I'll pick up a used 06 later this year; I really prefer that look, especially with the RS4 rims.

The nav moved from the center of the instruments to the dash near the radio from 05.5 to 06. I didn't get nav on my 05.5 for exactly that reason. You are correct about the BBS CH wheels - the premium pkg on 2006s got them.

I have the nav in my 05.5 and it displays on the nav screen and in between the speedometer and rpm guages.

just bought a 06 S4 tonight red and black. List 55,700 paid 48,250. There is a dealer incentive going on for these cars. In Nj there are only about 7 new 06s left and about 10 07s. Obviously no deal on the 07s

One major difference is that the 06 cars also get the 40/60 torque split differential that can be seen on the RS4 and Q7.
