So plus one for the S4.
Your trip computer is ****ed. I get 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway in my S4 which is about what most people get. RS 4 should be about the same or slightly worse. If you drive it the way you say you do, there is no way you're averaging almost 25 unless you're running on 4 cylinders.

For the gas mileage alone, I'd probably go 335xi as the S4 is a thirsty pig. Otherwise, it is an absolutely fabulous car. The engine is amazing and I really don't think you'll regret the choice. Having said that though, the 335 is a beautiful car. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Personally, unless you're willing to step up to an RS 4, I'd probably choose the 335...cheaper and better gas mileage gives it the edge.

I think the RS4 gets better gas mileage than an S4 because of FSI !!! curious how many miles the RS4 driver can drive with one tank of gas on a combined city/highway cycle.... do the RS4 and S4 gas tanks hold the same amount of gas?

It wasn't stock. They are fat porkers! The only thing they suck faster than your will to drive fast is gas.

I hate to tell you this but it was as STOCK as they get... and when I say dominating I don't mean "passing"... edging them out... neck and neck... and it was yes... a wagon !!! the S4 gets real quick in 3rd,4th and 5th gears.... 1st and 2nd are nothing to write home about....

I'm a hardcore Audi guy but I love the 335i. If you didn't need AWD I'd say go with the BMW.

I had the STi and I LOVE that car but it definitely is the worst choice for long drives.

If you are going to post an opinion at least try to be objective.

I had an E46 M3 and have a B7 S4 - to say the S4 is terrible just shows ignorance. Both cars are good cars. To play at your level I might as well talk about how the E46 M3 sounds like **** from the factory and that makes the car junk obviously, because the V8 roar of the S4 is far superior . The S4 has fantastic driving characteristics and handles and brakes as well on the street as the E46 M3 or 335i for that matter. It's a bit heavier but especially on tight turns it lays down power very well.

The S4 is, IMO, nicer car (with AWD, and a nicer interior) than the 335i. If you want a stick car you can modify, go with the 335i. Snow tires on my S4 and the thing is just unstoppable.

actually i do think the m3 sounds bad from the factory...but come listen to my full SS race exhaust...its better than any audi s4 or rs4 ive heard...ask anyone who's heard my exhaust in person (and there are a few on here) it sounds very akin to a ferrari.

i just didnt like the s4 when i drove it...its nice, but not my style and it weighs good amount more than an m3, and esp my m3. the s4 just didnt do anything for me personally in any way...it didnt inspire or excite me at all. thats not to say its doesnt for others, but for me.

C'mon, no one said it was absolute crap. I don't dislike Audi but I agree with C4. I looked intently at the S4 twice and both times paid more money (quite a bit) to get a C55 first and then an M3. It isn't that fast, it feels very weighty. It floats on the suspension, has marginal feedback and nose dives like a pig to slop on the binders.

The M3 has its own quirks but at least you feel like you are driving a sporting car.

Is a mild modded M3 fast ??? My A6 2.7t family hauler smoked (6+ cars to 120mph) the few I had a pleasure of embarasing. Now going around a corner is another story. I do get over 20mpg most in city. Both good choice's. Flip a coin.

what do you consider mildly modded? i can tell you my m3 with full exhaust from the headers back, pulleys, intake, custom software, and 4.10 gears would prob easily pull an rs4...i just cant find anyone who's willing to line up with me from like a 30 mph and 50 mph roll. my m3 has even more than i listed and no one would consider it only mildly modded.

You are comparing stock to modified, which is simply pointless. It's also pointless to use anecdotal evidence like someone says they think your M3 sounds like a Ferrari - no one cares about how your M3 sounds because we aren't talking about sound clips of modified M3s in this thread. Some people like raspy high-strung engine sounds, other people like the low octave muscle car sounds of a V8. Completely subjective.

Your 2nd paragraph is much more reasonable than your first post - where you stated the S4 was junk and this and that. If the S4 doesn't do anything for you, that's fine, obviously we all have our opinions. I could post what I thought about my M3 (which is not very favorable) but that's not the point of this thread.

And one final note - you keep comparing the B7 S4 to your modified E46 M3, this post was about a B7 S4 vs a E90/E92 335i.
