Malakas, I did the RWD conversion myself, with two jack stands and a floor jack. It took way to long, but I was determined(TX2K8 was the following weekend) and can be finished in about an hour if you have the proper tools to remove the hub nut on the other side of where the two half shafts are secured to the hub assembly.
Good luck, you won't regret it. There is a thread in the 996TT/forum right now about using some kind of part that allows you to switch back to AWD quicker. I think some kind of GT2 parts were used. Check it out.

Thanks for the heads up. I REALLY want to go RWD... the weight loss being the primary reason, but Im sure the handling (read: steering) is a little lighter without the front wheels being driven.
I may have to call on your expertise in the future
