My new Fisker Karma is almost here and I must make room for it by parting ways with my 2008 Maserati Gran Turismo.
First off, there are about $20k of aftermarket upgrades that have been done to this car. On top of that, I just replaced the 2 front tires ($700) last weekend! The car is still under factory warranty.
As you can imagine, this car really turns heads. First, it is the sound of the exhaust. The notorious, deep tones from the TUBU mufflers mixed with the snarls of the Larini X-Pipe create a sound that is truly unique.
Not only does the exhaust make heads turn, but the look of this car in deep black sitting on staggered 22" Forgiato wheels - also demands the attention of those around.
Sorry for all of the sugar coating, I just really like this car - I always have.
I have lowered the price (for a few weeks), as I will get substantial sales tax savings on my new car - if I sell this one first. $74,950. Please PM for additional info. Please, no low-ball offers. I am not desperate to sell this car. In fact, I have thought about just holding on to it for a couple more years.
List of Custom Add-ons
- Forgiato 22″ Staggered Wheels $9,000
- Escort ZR-4 Shifter Laser Jammer $1,500
- Radar Detector Wiring (V1 or Escort) $250
- iPhone remote / Wiring $250
- Larini X-Pipe $775 + $300 Install
- TUBI Exhaust $4,300 + $400 Install
- VentureShield Clear Bra (Full Hood, Full Fenders, Full Front Bumper, Partial Side/Rear) $2,800

Why are you selling? The Maserati - side view- looks pretty identical to the Karma AND makes nice VROOM VROOM noises. I would know what to keep and what to cancel :-)
Good luck with the Fisker. Just make sure the batteries don't deplete totally.

You ask a great question. Everyday, I seem to be on the fence about getting rid of the Maserati or keeping it.
I agree, they look very similar. I know I will miss the VROOM-VROOM noises! The TUBI's + Larini make this GT rumble and snarl in a very distinct way.
Basically, the Maserati serves great as my "Sport" + "Sedan" car. It has a back seat that can actually be used. Now that I have the Karma coming in, I'd like to get back into a true sports car. I had a Viper before, but looking into German, Italian or European this go around.
A nice Turbo with PDK would always be appealing -among others ;^)
From what I have heard, Fiskers are not at risk with the same problems that Tesla is running into. Again, this is only what I have heard. Perhaps, because you always have the gas engine to rely on.

Frankly, I think the Fisker car is going to be pretty boring soon after you get it. I saw the Velocity show with Henry Fisker touting the Karma. Looks to be like a boulevard cruiser, nothing more nothing less. Must say that I do like the Fisker designed interiors on his older cars based on the Bimmers.
On this issue of holding on to the Maserati. I looked at the Maserati and others before I bought the 996T and did find that none of the Masers were really hardcore enough with sufficient Daily Driver capability and having some expensive gotcha's ( F1 - gearbox type problems) that really would **** me off. I would consider it to be not reliable and as such it would not be my choice. Having said that of course, the Ferrari engine, interior design, ride and chick pulling capability is just A1. It was just not an expense I was willing to sign up for . It was like the monthly dues for a condo or something like that.

Just curious on this battery issue. What is the list price for a new battery in the Fisker pricelist and.. do they recommend to "acquire" a spare like Tesla does??

Hopefully, I will still be covered under warranty when/if that happens. I plan to put plenty of miles on it, so I be testing out those batteries out.
I do not have really much expectations for big performance on the Fisker. Having driven the demo a few times, I know it will be an adjustment from the exhaust sound that I am used to.
To me, the Fisker is just a cool, distinct 4-door sedan that gets great gas mileage....and is faster than the current hybrid's out there. I would never be able to live with 0-60 in 14 second vehicle. This one is much faster than that. Of course, I do not plan on really racing it against anyone...which was also the case with the Maserati.
Alternatively, I could have also gone with a mainstream German or Japanese sedan, but I would have gotten bored with blending in with everyone else.
This GranTurismo does not have the F1 transmission. The stories about transmission issues were usually tied to previous generation GranSports (smaller coupes) and early Quattroportes.
I do agree with you about the maintenance premium in comparison to your 911. This is the same could be said comparing Honda maintenance costs to a Porsche.
For the record, I have not heard of anyone having any issues with this generation of GranTurismos. I would not be hesitant to keep the car a few more years....but like I said, it is too similar to the Karma. And I want to eventually get back into a fast car.
