FS: 2001 911 Turbo (black/black)
Year: 2001
Make: Porsche
Model: 911
Price: $43000
Mileage: 50200
Color: Black
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): WA
Transmission: Manual
Drivetrain: 4WD & AWD
The car has been stored in a locked garage while I've owned it, is driven sparingly (collectors car insurance policy) and in decent weather only. I do have partial service records for it and several significant receipts. Overall I'd say that this is a lightly modified Turbo that you can count on for miles of enjoyment!
I'm asking $43,000 for the car, and will include all spare parts for it (another complete stock exhaust, original shifter, and other misc. parts).
Current Modifications:
Agency Power black wheel lugs
Alpine CDA-9887 stereo head unit with integrated iPod control
Bumperplugs.com rear wiper delete
Fikse Profil 13 wheels in "Race black" finish (18x8 +44 front, 18x11.5 +44 rear)
GBox second gear detent replacement
Gemballa doorsills with 'BiTurbo' logos
Gemballa ECU reflash (1.0 Bar of boost pressure)
Gemballa floormats with 'BiTurbo' logos
LED parking lights from 42 Draft Designs (BAX9S style)
Porsche OEM interior carbon package (shift ****, center console)
Porsche OEM GT3 front brake ducts
Porsche OEM exhaust modified to remove catalytic converters (I have a stock exhaust which is also included)
Porsche OEM 997 SSK (Short Shift Kit)
Porsche reproduction silver hood crest (OEM gold crest included)
Precision Porsche GT2 replica front bumper
Smoked front side markers
Stainless steel pedal covers (unknown brand)
Venture Shield wrap on the entire front of the car, including bumper, hood, and front fenders
Windows professionally tinted at 30% on all glass
Pictures are available here: http://suprahardtopregistry.com/996TT/ForSale/
Some notes of concern that I'd like to point out:
- There is a small (tiny) dent on drivers side A-pillar. Not noticeable to anyone unless they are washing the car.
- The rear spoiler hydraulic rams are broken. I permanently disabled it in the down position and didn't lose any sleep over it. No error messages for this.
- The car popped out of 2nd gear exactly 3 times in 3 years (literally, I kept count). After the GBox second gear detent upgrade, it no longer has this problem at all.
- I only have 1 key/fob for the car. Although I had planned to resolve this many times, it's still the case.
- Two (2) of the Fikse wheels have been professionally repaired. One for a curb hit and another for actually splitting the barrel. The repair is solid and not visible at all (unless unmounted).
- There is one broken tab on the passenger side taillight. You'd only notice this when washing the car or removing the taillight from the car.

Thank you for the very kind words John, I appreciate it.
I've added a few more pictures to the link above, interior and motor shots included now. This 996TT is looking for a great new home!

Hey all,
First off, in the interest of full disclosure I'm a friend of Steve's from back in the Supra Hardtop days. And I even called him a friend when he had a Z06 ) Although pretty much anyone who knows Steve would call him a friend. Simply a great person, and a true car guy to the core.
A few months ago I was entertaining the idea of getting a 996TT, and naturally I had about a hundred email exchanges with Steve trying to gather as much information as I could. I'm not currently a Porsche owner, and the last one I owned was a 1966 911, so I had a lot to catch up on. After a few months of searching I made a trip to Seattle to look at four different 996TT's (one of which was Steve's car that is for sale here). Since most people never get a chance to look at many of these cars I thought I'd share my thoughts comparing the various cars.
The first 996TT we looked at was a 2003 with ~23k miles on it. I will be honest that we really liked this car. It's clearly been loved all its life, and has some tasteful modifications like forged HRE wheels. I didn't much care for the woodgrain trim on the console and steering wheel, but that's just a personal opinion. If I were looking for an exceptionally clean 996TT, and money was no object then I would probably pick this one. However, at $57k, money really better not be a concern. Still not a bad deal for what it is, but that's getting close to 997.1 money.
The second 996TT we looked at was a 2002 X-50 in Guards Red with natural interior. I don't know what the general consensus is, but for me the interior was just too orange. It was an 'unnatural' enough color that I didn't think I could live with it. The rest of the car was in fine shape though. Unfortunately it had a dead battery and we weren't able to start it up or take it out. I was originally considering this car because it had ~75k miles and was listed at $46k. It was pretty much all stock.
The third 996TT we looked at was a 2002 with a lot of GT2 upgrades done, and a GIAC ecu upgrade. The car had ~48k miles on it, and had all the service records. We took this car for a drive as we were actually pretty interested in it. It had the grey interior with carbon trim. Overall I thought it was a nice color combo, and not nearly as offensive as the natural interior. However, after a short drive I was unimpressed. Yes, the larger turbos, exhaust, and chip made more power. But everything about the car felt a little rough and rattly. I didn't see anything in the records about suspension being replaced/upgraded. But it definitely did not have the feel of a GT car that I was expecting. The turbos felt laggy (even compared to my small single MKIV), and when they came on it was pretty suddenly. The shifter felt really disconnected, even for a cable shifter. Prior to the test drive we had really considered this car, but it was just a little too rough. And at ~$57k, we felt like the modifications had hurt the car rather than enhanced it.
The last car we looked at was Steve's 996TT. Steve has a reputation for keeping his cars pretty immaculate, and his car did not disappoint. The black interior is gorgeous, and is really augmented by the carbon on the console, e-brake, shifter, and door sills. However, the biggest difference we noticed was in the drive. This car is in a different league than the other we drove. The shifter is smooth and precise. The ride is much quieter, and less harsh than the other car (which was on stock 18" wheels). The engine response was immediate, and the turbos came in strong, but not like a switch. The steering was uber precise, and I swear you could feel changes in the road texture through the steering wheel. Steve's car has full leather wheel rather than the wood/plastic inlay, and I found I liked the feel/consistency of that a lot more. In short, this is exactly what I was hoping the 996TT would feel like. It's got more mechanical grip than any other car I've owned (including all my Audis), and is definitely a GT car that could be enjoyed for a long trip.
So the real question is...why didn't we buy Steve's car? After a long discussion on our drive home we ended up deciding we really should replace our DD first, then consider getting a 996TT at a later date. This was further solidified when my boss asked to buy our current DD a week later (which we're still in the hunt to replace. If anyone knows of a clean Audi S6 (C6) I'd love to hear about it.) Unquestionably Steve's was the nicest of the 996TT's we looked at. At $43k it was also the cheapest. No question this is a bargain for the condition the car is in. I'm surprised that it hasn't sold already. Someone who buys this car is going to be incredibly happy.
Anyway, that's my two cents after looking as several 996TT's. I hope it's helpful for anyone considering this car. I took about three pages of notes about the various cars, so if anyone has questions I'm happy to share any information I learned.

I just couldn't ask for kinder words, thank you very much Dan.
I had the Porsche out at our local exotic car show and it received a lot of compliments yesterday. It's just waiting for a new owner. I thought of one additional detail (about the rear taillight, so just added it to my original ad). To the top please.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. She's still patiently waiting for a new home, so here's a weekend bump.
I feel like this car is a lot of value for someone who still wants a great daily driver or weekend fun car, or of course as the basis for a nice buildup since she just has basic but desirable modifications.

Guys, last chance to get a nice price on my car by buying it directly from me. I've found my next car so am taking this one in for consignment within the next couple days. Please let me know if you're seriously interested since it would be great to sell to a 6SO member, but I'm tired of tire kickers and ready to sell. Thanks all!
PS. The car will have the stock exhaust back on it (emissions compliant), rear bumper back on (safe), and the rear upper seat back reinstalled.
