I didn't answer the rest of your question. The K16/24 hybrids offered for sale on the tuner sites are the same as these.

Yes, they are still available. I guess people are cash short from Xmas shopping. 
There have been a few questions about the K16/24 hybrids. There is a lot of info if you search in the 996TT/GT2 section but be prepared to commit a few hours reading. Basically, they give you fast spoolup (no percieved lag) with excellent top end power. They are considered an excellent street and road course setup, require no special fuel mods and will net around 500awhp. Here is a thread showing K16/24 dynos of two cars, each has different tuning (GIAC and UMW):
