Blockhead,
Originally when I got my 996 last summer, it came with the original Pirelli's from 2002 which were horribly flat spotted after sitting (The car came with 19K on the clock). I instantly looked for an alternative, and being in the performance automotive industry, I was looking for something that was stiff sidewall, good linear grip, and something not too loud. I found these tires in the budget section of tires, but from experience tires like the pirelli's are overrated and barely do anything more if that than in comparison to tires half their cost.
I picked up a set of these and I was very happy. The sidewalls are stiff, so the car does not get any yaw feeling at high speeds and is predictable. They have a decent amount of linear grip, but obviously nothing compared to any R Comp. I would say for a street tire the Dunlop Direzza Starspec is my favorite tire, along with the Falken Azenis, but the sizes didn't work for the wheels. I chose these and am a pretty happy guy.
They were taken off 5 weeks ago as I was able to get a great deal from a local dealer here for some Hoosier R6's. The fronts were sold to a co-worker on a different car, so now just the rears are left. This is the 3rd set of 2 rear tires I will be selling.
I have these currently on my BBS LM"s in 19 and wouldnt change them for anything unless you give me Toyo R888's to drive on the street and pay for them .
