Thumbs down News Flash! 90s technology Porsche CD changer made of "unobtainium"!!!

Seriously! WTF? Every Cayenne CD changer on eBay is $200-400!

Can you even buy a new cd player of ANY kind these days for that knd of money? Do people even listen to CDs these days? Last time I physically touched a CD was when I loaded them into my first iPod in 2002-03

I want to test out a little trick to get cd quality sound from my phone/iPod into my PCM 2.0 head unit but I need a CD changer to make it work. Anyone have one laying around that they want to sell for a reasonable price for a 6-7year old electronic/mechanical automotive out dated music input device?

I hear you Cole and think you are being too kind
I am not the biggest fan of Porsche" cabin tech"or lack thereof
It would not come as a surprise to me, if the next gen pepper came with an 8track...But seriously,I would not mind a proper way of ripping my dvd audios and blurays and putting the whole she-bang on my ipod, the physical act of taking out and putting CDs into a player...is sooo late 80s

It's a proprietary unit that runs on the MOST optical BUS, so there aren't any alternatives out there. Simple supply and demand curves will show you why these things are so expensive. You may want to check out the Dension Gateway "Light" or something like that, to get sound into the PCM on the cheap. I have the "full" unit, but only because they didn't offer the light at the time I bought it. Having the text read-out on the screen is nice, but you can't control the ipod (you can, but you won't because it's a pain) with the Porsche controls. It looks like the light unit just gets the sound into the head unit as the CD changer source, which is all you really need. (If the 2003 could also handle the Dension BlueTooth kit, that would be a different story.) For a few hundred bucks, it's an easy choice. Good luck.

I removed the CD changer from my 06 C2S last year. Would it be compatible with what you want? Feel free to PM me.

No idea if it will work or not.

I recentl discovered that in our Audi with a similar proprietary Bose system I could tap into the audio feed coming from the cd changer and use it to hook up a 3.5mm headphone jack.

You have to leave a cd playing in the changer, but the audi source now comes from the iPod/ cell phone etc. The sound is awesome in the Audi.

Want to see if I can do the same in the Cayenne to stream Pandora from my phone, but my CTT does not have a cd changer to fool the system.
