i always thought shop time was the blue collar equivalent of "billable hours" in legalese. eg completely arbitrary and often higher than need be.
#108
well, if and when i ever blow this sh*t up. i would do it, without hesitation. gotta be cheaper than a new gt2/3rs i think though given the mileage on my motor.. i'm gonna wring whatever life she still has in 'er 3.6 innards .. and i still probably won't outlast this 'ol mezger. but i sure would like to hear of yours when it's done.
I'm looking rebuild late next year, granted it lasts that long

just now at 104 k miles,.. healthy as a horse, and fast as a stung mule. fingers crossed. a tip o the hat to fellow spd'r sambott. he is well know for setups like this out here. fast relatively cheap.. and reliable as all getout

Keep doing what your doing man! Awesome! Glad you are having fun with it.
#111
sounds very similar to my current setup, less the IC's, i'm sitting at 74k myself.
Hope the A28's don't give me the itch to go bigger... the good thing about that... easy upgrade. Sell the 28's and go 30xx. I don't see it happening, I don't want more than 600/600, but how many people say that and end up with 800+ later? lol

i hear ya. lets hear it for "bolt on's " as for going bigger/more power? given i'm at roughly 550 crank and 475 wheels? my thinking has been to opt for smaller/tighter places and conditions in which to drive. that and i'd like to begin stripping *unecessary* weight, as opposed to trying to squeeze more power out of my stock motor. just a thought. it's a bit depressing to think that finally getting my car on a track is becoming bucket list type of sh*t. though i have some time yet. i think lol

Weight loss will really change your car!

i know, bro. thats my next strategy. given it's only worth about 35k! lol.. i'll never bother selling it!

I need to take out my spare tire (both from the car and myself, LOL), and the rear/useless seats.
Might do that today. Need to test out the GMG trans mounts I installed a while back.

did you switch out motor mounts yet? i just replaced with the wevo's. curious to hear about the trans mounts results, but theyre a bit more labor intensive to install, or i'd have done mine same time too.
( apologies for the threadjackin )

I did the RSS Mounts, love them.
I bought mine already installed in the carrier, wasn't too bad, but yes.. more labor intensive than the motor mounts.

Any significant weight loss on a vehicle is going to help..
Its always better to have a light vehicle with less HP,, verses a heavy vehicle with more HP...
But then again, its the best to have the lightest vehicle with the most HP as the ultimate combo....

"Should" is a mighty big word.
I wonder how many people with a Porsche, be it 914, 928, 944, 968 or 911
have had their engine rebuilt in 5 days?
Machine shop stuff can screw with the best of intentions
I just got lucky! Fred doesn't have any extra work outside the
dealership right now.

The shift **** on the 917 was made of balsa wood.
Porsches strategy was always lightweight cars with POWERFUL small
displacement engines.
Our goal is 2750 lbs but with a full interior w/ stereo, a/c etc...
Only thing we're giving up is sound.......but I'd rather listen to
the engine and gears anyways!
