996 turbo speedtech x-cellerator exhaust (cross flow)

Up for sale is my Speedtech "x-cellerator" (cross flow) 996 twin turbo exhaust. This is the "quiet" version with the 2.5" diamter tubuing, and features 100 cell sport cats and the single opening double wall chrome exhaust tips. The cats and tips feature v-band clamp connectors so that the entire system is modular (i.e, can be run with cat bypass pipes or different tips without having to remove the entire exhaust.

I ran this exhaust for about 3 years and it served me great. Passed emissions with no problems, and no check engine lights, (unlike my catless current exhaust). I'm very, very picky when it comes to exhaust note, and this was my third exhaust and by far my favorite up to that point (I had stock, fabspeed twin can, speedtech twin can, and then this one). This exhaust is very, very light, and has a very exotic tone that is very easy to live with when you aren't hammering on the throttle (it is loud at wide open throttle though). The only reason I'm sellling it is because I came across an exhaust I liked even better (switzer exhaust with cat bypass pipes). Even after purchasing the switzer I had to reinstall the speedtech to determine which one to keep, but in the end I decided to stay with the Switzer (but it was close).

For the sake of full disclosure, the exhaust does have two small dents in the outer central "can" underneath the clamps that hold the exhaust to the engine carrier, that occurred after I rolled off a "mini curb" at slow speed while exiting a 7-eleven a few years ago. The clamps contacted the curb, causing the dents. They are not very noticeable when on the car since the dents are under the clamp bolts, and the camera flash really accentuates them in the attached pictures. The dents could probably be pulled out pretty easily with a dent puller or by a muffler shop, but it never bothered me enough to do it. When I examined the exhaust for damage I also noticed two very small hairline cracks on welds at the pipes that exit the cans. I wouldn't have known they were there if it were not for the slight "carbon tracking" I could see on the exhaust can (see picture...Im pretty sure this occurred when I banged the clamps on the curb since the carbon seemed very fresh and minor). For this reason, I had ALL 4 of the pipe-to-can welds re-welded at Scottsdale Muffler (a reputable performance muffler shop) just for peace of mind. I ran the exhuast for another 3-4k miles after that and it has held up great. Still perfect fitment and no issues whatsoever. There are some scratches on the bottom of the tips, but nothing major.

This unit retails for over $3,200 new, and gets rave reviews on the forums See http://www.speedtechexhausts.com/ast1_012.htm
for more information on the system.

I will take $1,200 for the exhaust in light of the prior repairs and dents (which don't affect performance, since the dents are only in the outer can, as you can see from the photos and the "cutaway" shot from the speedtech website.

This is a no risk deal. If you buy it and end up not liking it, it doesn't fit right, or you just change your mind, just send it back within a week or so and I'll give you your money back! Scott.

HvH1 is infamous around these parts
I'm interested. Could you tell me how old the 2.5 SpeedTech is (i.e are you the first owner) and how many approx total miles are on it?

thanks,
Hugh

Hi Hugh. I don't really recall. I'm the second owner (bought from a member on here who I ended up buying some other parts from when he sold his car). I bought it in January 2011 and bought the switzer around 9/11. So it was on for a solid 8 months, and then from September 2011 on I alternated between them a few times. I'm guessing no more than 10k miles, but that is a guess (the majority of the miles since I bought the switzer were with the switzer. Let me know if you want more pictures and I can take a few more tonight.

Here is my original "speedtech impressions" post

Thanks Scott- exhaust received today. Rep pts added. It will have to wait for install however, supposed to be -30 to -40 degree windchills.

I was worried about the dents, but not too bad- hopefully it doesn't bug me too mich- sort of hard to see I imagine.

Thanks!
Scott
