I'm not sure if I could ever drive/be driven in a Phantom. It's just way too flashy. I saw an F430 spyder for the first time last month and thought it was too flashy so maybe it's just me. And I'm not sure I understand the "**** what people think and drive it if you like it" mentality.

I have to say that if the idea of purchasing a phantom is up in the air that a flying spur by Bentley is a good choice. I see GT's around all the time and they always are nice but never too flashy, and whenever I see a flying spur I feel similar but think its considerably nicer at times, thats a pretty good bet if the phantom is a bit too much

I agree with this thinking.

The Spur is more subtle but very classy.

I saw a Phantom in town Friday, and it just did not look as elegant to me as does a Spur.

Did he consider the convertable?

It's a fantastic car, but no so imposing.

I am like your friend in that I hate attention when I drive 'normal places'. My gallardo around here is like a ufo and everyone on the road tries to race, take pictures, honk their horn, give me the finger or curse me out. That said, I love the car. But I could never drive it everyday to ordinary places, or I would go insane with the amount of attention it brings, and a lot of is bad attention. If I lived in Beverly Hills and they saw cars like that everyday, I would love to drive it everyday.

Yesterday I just bought a Black Bentley GT Mulliner and I've 'tested' it out driving it normal places and I don't get any crazy attention at all. It has a very understated elegance about it. I feel like I could drive it anywhere and not feel I was being ostentatious and the center of everyones attention. I still get the occasional 'great car man' type comments when going into stores, but nothing like the lambo. It seems only the people who know cars know what it is and appreciate it. Others probably assume it's a Chrysler lol

I would recommend something less flashy if he doesn't like all that attention, maybe a Bentley. Otherwise if he wants to scream in peoples faces, I'm richer than you, get out my way or I'll run you over, get the Phantom

Tell him to get what he likes and f$ck what anyone else thinks. He's not buying it for them!
Although I agree whole heartedly with you that you should drive or wear whatever you feel like, it is advisable for some people in some industries to maintain a relatively low profile. I love both the asthetics and size of the Phantom but for someone who is trying to maintain a low profile, humility or some level of modesty, it is not the right car.

I know of multiple forbes list billionaires who drive sub $100k cars on a daily basis. I also know of people who park their Phantoms outside of their $300k homes. Truely wealthy people have very little to prove.

If the individual is making 8 figures he obviously is in the realm of wealth were he knows anything he wants he could afford. So the fact that he is still undecided in my mind makes me think its not the car for him.
A Phantom is the kind of car that I could see people buying on the spot... I wouldn't be surprised if a MB S65, Flying Spur, or BMW 760 ends up as his choice for the office commute

Entourage aside, I wouldn't go with a Phantom. A Bentley is a better choice for him, its less ostentatious and probably a better grand tourer.
